Production and Mining Superintendent
As a Production and Mining Superintendent, you will play a significant part in the success of the Wildish Sand & Gravel Company by directly managing the execution of mining operations. We rely on the Superintendent to set the highest expectations among their crew for safety, quality, schedule, performance, and team development.
A strong technical and practical background in surface mining and leading teams is required. Also, excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are considered critical to this position.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Supervise and manage the various aspects of the production team which includes the sand & gravel mining operations, screen plant, crusher, ready mix/CTB plants, as well as direct supervision of an assigned crew of equipment operators, haul truck drivers, and conveyor line and plant mechanics.
- Interact effectively and maintain open communication with crews, equipment mechanics, quality control personnel, and safety leadership.
- Assist with training and development of plant production and maintenance crews.
- Promote a safe and productive work environment; monitor job safety, and provide job safety training, coaching, and awareness.
- Assist in preparing work plans and scheduling in determining labor force levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements.
- Follow and uphold all MSHA policies and procedures, comply with all other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements pertaining to mining, land, air, and water protection in collaboration with the Safety and Land Manager and the Federal Metal and Nonmetal Mine Safety, Health and Training Standards (30CFR 13 th edition).
- Create and manage long-term mine and crushing plans.
- Establish daily job assignments, authorize time off requests, complete performance assessments, and initiate disciplinary action and performance improvements.
- Working knowledge of assembly, installation, repairs, and maintenance of mechanical equipment (such as conveyor systems, motors, production equipment, and measuring devices) in accordance with plans, blueprints, sketches, operating manuals, and specifications.
- Examine/inspect field conditions, machinery, and equipment in operation, troubleshoot problems, and correct inaccuracies and issues.
- Manage and oversee the cleaning of all working areas and drainage ditches.
- Knowledge of land conservation and water management in business operations.
Position Requirements
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years relevant experience as a Production/Crusher Superintendent in mining or heavy civil construction experience.
- Commitment to safe operating practices, including use of personal protective equipment, fall protection, lock out/tag out, guards at pinch points.
- Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done, and demonstrated commitment to ethics, fairness, safety, and integrity.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to build and support a team, work collaboratively, and supervise and manage individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Self-starter and highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence, problem solving, and taking initiative.
- Strong in organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.

- Possess working knowledge of various rock products, quality control measures, and efficient production techniques
- Sand & Gravel Pits: Knowledgeable of conveyor system maintenance and repair, including feed hoppers, conveyor belts (alignment, adjustments, splicing and tensioning), transfer stations, and water pumps.
- Crusher Plant: Knowledgeable of maintenance and repair, including jaw, cone, and impact crushers, screens, conveyor belts, and electric motor systems.
- CTB Plant: Knowledge of CTB batching maintenance and repair, including bins and silos, scales, compressors, and mechanical settings.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and background check.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Strength: Capable of routinely pushing and pulling hand-operated levers, depressing foot operated pedals and/or turning steering wheels for mechanical and hydraulic systems; routinely removing and installing components weighing up to 30 pounds; occasionally removing and installing components in excess of 30 pounds; occasionally swinging a 20-pound hammer or bar; driving a utility vehicle.
Flexibility: Capable of walking on uneven, slick, loose, and/or broken surfaces; climbing onto and off of equipment; squatting, kneeling, reaching, bending at the waist, and/or lying on back and sides while making repairs.
Dexterity: Capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously (e.g., holding a component in place while turning a wrench, operating left- and right-hand controls and left- and right-foot pedals).
Respiratory Capacity: Capable of wearing a respiratory protection device while working in hazardous atmospheric conditions.
Endurance: Capable of performing assigned duties for eight or more hours at a time in hot, cold, daylight, nighttime, wet and/or dusty environments, and in noisy or jarring conditions.
Responsiveness: Capable of identifying through sight, sound, smell and/or touch, and reacting quickly to hazardous situations.
Communication: Capable of clearly communicating tasks and duties to all team members. Answers team member's questions clearly and provides support as needed. Ability to clearly communicate hazard communications and MSHA requirements.
Mental: Capable of multi-tasking, following multiple tasks at once while monitoring crew for safety and production.
