Job Description
As a Sr Advanced Software Engineer - Android OS Architect (Sr Embedded Android Architect), you will help architect and develop advanced embedded Android and Linux platforms for Honeywell's connected devices and industrial IoT solutions. This role is centered on systems-level software engineering, including Android platform customization, embedded software architecture, hardware/software integration, and low-level system optimization across modern SoC platforms.
You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to drive Android platform development from system bring-up through production, supporting scalable, secure, and high-performing device solutions used in mission-critical environments.
You will report directly to our Sr Software Engineering Manager and work out of our Fort Mill, SC location on a Hybrid work schedule. For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Architect and develop embedded Android/Linux software platforms for next-generation connected and IoT devices.
  • Design and customize Android system components across Framework, System Services, Middleware, HAL, and Linux Kernel layers.
  • Lead platform bring-up, BSP integration, and hardware/software validation on Qualcomm, MediaTek, Samsung, NXP, or similar SoC architectures.
  • Drive software architecture decisions focused on scalability, performance, security, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Develop and optimize system-level software in C, C++, and Java for embedded Android and Linux environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex cross-layer system issues involving IPC, drivers, HAL implementations, kernel interactions, and hardware peripherals.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, systems, quality, and product teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Support Android OS upgrades, migrations, security enhancements, and platform certification activities.
  • Contribute to Android Framework customization, Treble architecture, AIDL/HIDL implementations, and SELinux configuration.
  • Participate in system verification, validation, root cause analysis, and performance optimization activities.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to software engineers across embedded and Android platform development efforts.
  • Support customer-facing technical discussions and field issue resolution as needed.

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering.
  • 5 + years of experience in Embedded systems architecture, System design and development, specifically Linux and Android Embedded Systems and Software Architecture in Smart Devices, IOT, Aviation, Automotive, or similar industry.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Qualcomm, MediaTek/Samsung/NXP or similar multi-core HW SOC architectures using Android OS or Linux platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience with C, C++ and JAVA coding languages.
  • 5+ years of experience with Android Application or SDK Development.
  • Expertise in Android framework ↔ System Service ↔ Middleware ↔ HAL ↔ Driver/Kernel interactions across multiple operating systems.
