Specimen Processing Technician

Job Description

• Biospecimen processing, verification of specimen compliance, sample issue resolution and accessioning into LIMS.

• Accessioning of legacy samples, including identification of samples for destruction

• Adherence to biohazard, safety and CLIA protocols

• Preparing and retrieving biospecimens for storage

• Arrange samples in proper order into specimen containers

• Properly pack specimen containers into shipping boxes and ship specimens

• Receiving shipments from outside labs

• Store and log received shipments

• Maintain biospecimen inventory

• Perform and maintain lab supply inventory as order as appropriate

• Disposal of specimens in accordance to lab SOPs

• Perform basic maintenance

• Record data entry via computer systems, including working with LV6 and Watson lab information management system

Qualifications

• Two years' experience in a hospital based, clinical commercial lab or research lab, performing biological and clinical specimen processing.

• Associate's degree (A.S.) in a scientific discipline as a minimum, Bachelor's degree preferred.

• Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to perform and record data entry via computer systems while adhering to lab SOPs mandatory.

• Previous knowledge of Universal Precautions, Blood Borne Pathogen training, MS word and excel preferable.

• Must possess skills necessary for biological and clinical sample processing and handling.
