Job description

Salary: $15.00 per hour DOE

We are looking for a qualified Sample Receiving / Data Entry Lab Technician who will be responsible for receiving and labeling incoming samples, preparing and conducting various laboratory tests on water, wastewater, sludge, and groundwater samples accurately and timely. Effective performance required to maintain laboratory accreditation. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a lab under possibly hazardous conditions (e. g. pathogens or chemicals).


Responsibilities

  • Receive and label food, dairy, water and wastewater samples
  • Perform various testing on wastewater, sludge or groundwater samples according to standard procedures
  • Prepare chemical solutions, add chemicals to samples, make reagents and other similar processes
  • Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy
  • Set up, adjust and operate laboratory equipment and instruments in order to properly conduct various laboratory tests on samples
  • Cleans up laboratory Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies
  • Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly and at all times
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment area including; washing, drying and sterilizing glassware and laboratory instruments
  • Prepares new bottles and test kits
  • Acts as a back-up for Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) entering Lab Data
  • May require working 4 weekend days a year in addition to the regular schedule


Skills

  • Neat penmanship, organized, efficient and works at a fast pace
  • Proven experience as Lab Technician or relevant position
  • Experience using appropriate glassware and other lab equipment
  • Experience working with potentially dangerous substances (hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, etc.)
  • In depth knowledge of good laboratory practices
  • Experience or knowledge of DO, pH, and conductivity meters and probes
  • Basic computer skills
  • Working knowledge of LIMS software, MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
  • Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry or relevant field preferred although not required.
  • Knowledge of chemistry principles highly desirable
