Position Description:

The Associate Scientist II, Bioanalysis will support operations within AbbVie's Regulated Bioanalysis group in the Quantitative, Translational, and ADME Sciences (QTAS) department. The primary responsibility of this role is to support clinical and non-clinical studies by analyzing biological samples for drugs and metabolites under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations. In addition, the individual will have opportunities to contribute to broader areas within QTAS as their experience and expertise develop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to project progress primarily through laboratory activities, including the analysis of bioanalytical samples for drugs and metabolites in accordance with GLP regulations and established bioanalytical workflows.
  • Handle biological matrices (e.g., plasma, serum, urine, blood, etc.).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot complex liquid chromatography systems and ultra-sensitive mass spectrometers.
  • Execute routine and complex laboratory tasks independently while delivering reliable, consistent, and inspection-ready results.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving trends in separations and mass spectrometry.
  • Review results from multistep experiments, identify significant deviations, and plan and conduct follow-up experiments.
  • Understand relevant scientific literature and use key concepts to solve discipline-specific problems in a timely manner.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education, with typically 3 or more years of relevant experience; or master's degree, or equivalent education, with no additional experience required.
  • Experience handling biological samples and performing sample preparation techniques, including protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction, and solid-phase extraction.
  • Experience with Hamilton Starlet automated liquid handling systems.
  • Experience operating Shimadzu liquid chromatography systems.
  • Experience operating API4000, API5000, API5500, and API6500 Applied Biosystems mass spectrometers.
  • Experience with Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN), WATSON Laboratory Information Management Software (LIMS), and Applied Biosystems Analyst software.
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines for bioanalysis and experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment, and a desire to learn bioanalytical techniques.
