Job description

Our client, a well-established professional services firm, is seeking a Tax Manager to join its State and Local Tax (SALT) practice. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing team that supports clients across a wide range of industries on state and local direct tax matters, including income/franchise tax reporting, controversy support, and strategic consulting.

This position provides significant client exposure, leadership responsibilities, and the ability to shape engagement strategy while working with modern tax technology tools. The Tax Manager will oversee day-to-day engagement management, guide team members, and ensure high-quality delivery across compliance and advisory projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships across both compliance and consulting engagements.

  • Advise clients on state and local tax matters involving partnership and corporate returns, with a focus on multistate considerations.

  • Coordinate closely with internal tax preparation teams, reviewing estimated payments, withholding and composite calculations, and investor-related schedules.

  • Manage engagement workflow, staffing, timelines, and billing.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on audit support, nexus analysis, voluntary disclosures, and other SALT planning matters.

  • Conduct research on state and local tax issues, including legislative developments, and support compliance and investor reporting processes.

  • Contribute to proposal development for new and existing client engagements.

  • Mentor and support the development of staff and senior team members.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; master's degree in taxation is a plus.

  • CPA or related certification preferred but not required.

  • 3-5 years of experience in state income/franchise tax, federal tax, pass-through entities, tax research, or corporate returns.

  • Experience with tax planning is a plus.

  • Strong research, writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Prior public accounting or professional services experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort with standard operating systems.
