Job description

Sales Consultant / Sales Associate

Two Compensation Options | Full-Time | Slumberland Furniture Marshalltown

A New Chapter for Slumberland Marshalltown Starts September 1, 2026!

Slumberland Furniture Marshalltown is transitioning from a corporate location to a locally owned and operated franchise, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

Our new ownership team is committed to investing in the store, our employees, and the Marshalltown community as we build an even better experience for both our customers and our team.

We’re looking for motivated, customer-focused people who want to be part of that growth from the beginning. Whether you’re an experienced salesperson who thrives on earning commission or someone who prefers the stability of hourly pay while still being rewarded for strong performance, we have two sales career paths available.

Choose the Sales Path That Fits You:

Sales Consultant – Uncapped Commission + Monthly Bonuses

Our Sales Consultant position is designed for motivated, results-driven individuals who want greater control over their earning potential.

You’ll earn uncapped commission based on your sales performance, with additional opportunities to earn monthly performance bonuses.

There is no ceiling on what a strong performer can earn. The more effectively you help customers and grow your sales, the greater your earning potential.

This position is a great fit for someone who:

  • Is motivated by performance and earning potential
  • Enjoys setting and exceeding goals
  • Is confident building relationships with customers
  • Wants uncapped commission opportunities
  • Is comfortable with income being tied more directly to individual sales performance
  • Wants the opportunity to earn more by producing stronger results

Sales Associate – Hourly Pay + Monthly Bonuses

Our Sales Associate position provides the stability of a consistent hourly wage while still rewarding strong sales performance through monthly bonuses.

This position is a great fit for someone who:

  • Wants predictable hourly income
  • Enjoys sales and working directly with customers
  • Is motivated by goals and additional bonus opportunities
  • May be newer to commissioned sales
  • Wants to develop their sales skills within a structured compensation model

Both positions are sales roles, and both have monthly sales performance expectations and goals.

The primary difference is how you’re compensated: the Sales Consultant position offers greater earning potential through uncapped commission, while the Sales Associate position provides the security of hourly pay plus performance bonuses.

What You’ll Do

This isn’t about following customers around a furniture store and asking, “Can I help you find anything?”

Our sales team helps customers make informed decisions about products they’ll use every day in their homes.

You’ll:

  • Welcome customers and learn about their needs, style, budget, and priorities
  • Help customers select furniture, mattresses, and home furnishings
  • Educate customers on product features, construction, comfort, durability, and available options
  • Help customers compare products and make confident purchasing decisions
  • Build relationships rather than relying on high-pressure sales tactics
  • Guide customers through mattress and sleep-product selections
  • Explain financing, protection plans, delivery options, and other available services
  • Follow up with customers and develop repeat and referral business
  • Maintain product and merchandising knowledge
  • Keep your sales area organized and presentation-ready
  • Accurately complete sales orders and customer documentation
  • Work with warehouse, delivery, customer service, and management to provide a great experience from purchase through delivery
  • Consistently work toward established monthly sales goals and performance expectations

What We’re Looking For

You don’t necessarily need furniture experience. We can teach furniture.

We’re more interested in finding people who are:

  • Friendly and comfortable talking with different types of people
  • Competitive and motivated by goals
  • Dependable and accountable
  • Willing to learn
  • Comfortable asking questions and listening to customers
  • Professional and trustworthy
  • Confident using computers and technology
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Able to follow up and build customer relationships
  • Comfortable working in a performance-driven environment
  • Team-oriented while still taking ownership of individual results

Previous experience in sales, retail, customer service, hospitality, automotive sales, wireless sales, real estate, banking, restaurants, or other customer-facing positions can translate extremely well to this role.

Performance & Growth

We believe employees should understand what success looks like.

Both sales positions have established monthly sales goals and performance expectations. You’ll receive training, coaching, product education, and tools designed to help you achieve those goals.

Strong performance is recognized and rewarded.

For employees who want to build a career with us, we’re also building a growing locally owned operation where additional responsibility and opportunities may develop as our business grows.

Why Join Slumberland Marshalltown?

September 1 isn’t simply an ownership change. It’s the beginning of what we intend to build in Marshalltown.

We’re investing in the store, improving the customer experience, strengthening our local presence, and building a team that takes pride in what we accomplish together.

As a locally owned Slumberland franchise, we have the advantage of operating under an established furniture brand while bringing local ownership, local accountability, and local decision-making to the Marshalltown store.

We’re looking for people who want to be part of that next chapter. If you’re dependable, competitive, enjoy helping people, and want your performance to have an impact on what you earn, we’d like to meet you.
