Job description

The Manager, Indirect Tax reviews all sales tax returns for the company and ensures the JD Finish Line is in compliance with all sales and use tax laws. This leader will effectively exhibit JD Finish Line's core values of Customer, People, Winning, Community, and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following key duties:

  • Reviews sales tax returns prepared in house and outsourced, payment requests, and payment logs.

  • Manages sales tax outsourcing vendor relationships and ensures compliance with all sales and use tax laws

  • Calculates monthly use tax expense and amount to be capitalized to fixed assets

  • Manages and handles all sales tax audits and notices

  • Researches and analyzes sales and use tax laws and law changes to ensure the company is in compliance with these sales and use tax laws

  • Engages with other departments to ensure vendors are in compliance with all sales and use tax laws

  • Gathers and communicates all information regarding sales tax holidays

  • Ensure sales tax rate changes are implemented properly to the digital and store businesses

  • Analyzes opportunities for sales tax refunds

  • Drives initiatives designed to the improve efficiency and quality of the sales and use tax processes

  • Directly supervises and develops 1 employee.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Additional duties and projects as required.

Required Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a 4 year college or university. 5-7 years of experience in sales tax, preferably in a leadership capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Computer and/or Technical Skills:

Should have basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft, Vertex, and abilities with Google Suite.
