Job description

Role description: 

The Sales and Use Tax Manager is responsible for the sales and use tax function for Ardagh Glass Packaging – North America (AGP-NA). 

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns, accruals, and payments 

  • Organize check requests, monitor payments and accruals for sales and use tax, and explain budget variances 

  • Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations and journal entries. 

  • Manage exception status, exemption applications, refunds, and returns 

  • Manage all state reverse sales and use tax audits and jurisdiction audits 

  • Research and conclude on sales/use tax positions and tax savings opportunities 

  • Provide sales/use tax guidance and update tax guidelines to all stakeholders 

  • Undertake Canadian Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) compliance  

  • Communicate and work effectively with state officials, auditors, consultants, and internal financial and tax management 

  • Maintain the tax determination software (Thompson Reuters OneSource Indirect Tax Determination) 

Minimum skills / qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field 

  • Five (5) years of accounting and corporate sales/use tax experience 

  • Three (3) years of experience in the manufacturing industry 

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a team-based environment 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills  

  • Ability to interact effectively with management and outside customers 

  • Must have exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills with good team dynamics 

  • Must possess excellent project management and organizational skills 

  • Willingness to undertake Canadian HST/GST/PST tax compliance 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 

  • Ability to travel up to 10% 

Preferred skills / qualifications:  

  • Willingness to undertake Canadian HST/GST/PST tax compliance 

  • Previous experience in Canadian HST/GST/PST 

  • Previous experience in SAP and creating reports 

  • Previous experience with Thomson Reuters Use Tax Software
