Their role is crucial in driving business growth and ensuring the company's products or services reach the right markets.

What do sales managers do?

Sales managers lead, supervise, and mentor a team of salespeople. They delegate job duties to their staff and set clear expectations and goals. The primary responsibilities of a sales manager include creating a sales plan, setting quotas for salespeople, assigning territories, and training new salespeople. They also prepare regular reports on sales figures for upper management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Manager, you need strong sales expertise, leadership abilities, and a solid understanding of sales strategies, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Knudtsen Foothills Mazda & Lincoln | Spokane, WA About the Dealership

Pay Range: $80,000-$180,000 annually (based on performance)

Knudtsen Foothills Mazda & Lincoln is a family-owned and operated dealership serving the Spokane and Post Falls communities with new and used vehicle sales, service, parts, and collision repair. At Knudtsen, relationships matter. We pride ourselves on building lifelong connections with our customers, supporting our team members, and being an active part of the communities we serve. We're looking for a driven Sales Manager who can develop people, grow sales, and help deliver an outstanding customer experience every day.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced dealership environment. You'll lead and coach the sales team, work alongside the General Manager to achieve dealership goals, and play a key role in creating exceptional vehicle-buying experiences. From training and mentoring sales associates to helping close deals and driving profitability, you'll be at the center of the dealership's success.

What you'll own:

  • Leading, hiring, training, and developing a high-performing sales team
  • Driving sales volume, gross profit, and overall dealership performance
  • Coaching associates through the sales process and helping close deals
  • Creating exceptional customer experiences that build lifelong relationships
  • Monitoring customer follow-up, CRM activity, and relationship management efforts
  • Training team members on products, processes, phone skills, and customer engagement
  • Maintaining showroom and vehicle lot presentation standards
  • Resolving customer concerns and supporting day-to-day dealership operations

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous automotive sales, finance, and sales management experience
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop others
  • A customer-first mindset focused on delivering exceptional service
  • Goal-oriented and self-motivated with a track record of achieving results
  • Comfort using CRM, database management, and dealership software systems
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
  • Ability to work collaboratively with dealership leadership and sales staff

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay with performance based bonus opportunities
  • Employer-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents
  • Life insurance coverage
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with 4% employer match
  • Paid holidays, vacation, and sick time
  • Vehicle purchase discounts
  • Training, professional development, and education assistance
  • The opportunity to lead a respected dealership backed by a strong family-owned organization

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The environment for the Sales Manager varies, but often is an office setting and working in a car showroom.  The Sales Manager will be required to walk the dealership property and may encounter inclement weather. May also enter the service areas and be exposed to dangerous work environments and loud noises.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
