What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales execution manager?

To thrive as a Sales Execution Manager, you need expertise in sales strategy, pipeline management, and a solid understanding of market dynamics, usually backed by a degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, sales analytics tools, and process optimization systems is essential. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help drive team performance and foster effective cross-functional collaboration. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring sales targets are met and for optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the sales process.

Sales Execution Managers work closely with cross-functional teams such as marketing, product management, and operations to ensure alignment on sales strategies and execution plans. This collaborative approach helps ensure that campaigns and initiatives are executed effectively and that both customer and organizational goals are met. Regular meetings, joint planning sessions, and shared performance metrics are common tools used to foster this collaboration.

Job description

If you are a customer-focused project execution professional looking to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Houston, Texas location, the Customer Engagement Manager will serve as the primary local interface between customers, Emerson’s North America organization, and global delivery teams for assigned Measurement Solutions projects. You will build trusted customer relationships, translate customer priorities into clear execution actions, and help ensure commitments are delivered safely, predictably, and in accordance with contractual, quality, schedule, and commercial requirements.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Serve as the primary local point of contact for assigned customers and projects, establishing trusted relationships and maintaining clear alignment on priorities, milestones, decisions, risks, and commitments.
  • Lead customer kickoffs, progress reviews, technical and commercial alignment meetings, executive updates, and escalation discussions; document decisions, owners, due dates, and follow-through.
  • Act as the bridge between the customer, sales, North America operations, global project managers, engineering, supply chain, quality, manufacturing, field service, finance, and legal teams.
  • Translate customer requirements and business outcomes into clear internal actions, execution priorities, resource needs, and measurable commitments.
  • Maintain end-to-end visibility of schedule, budget, quality, risk, billing milestones, documentation, and customer actions; proactively identify gaps and drive timely corrective actions.
  • Coordinate North America-based activities such as site readiness, inspections, Factory Acceptance Testing, shipment release, installation, commissioning, Site Acceptance Testing, and project closeout.
  • Drive disciplined scope and contract management by identifying deviations, documenting customer requests, supporting change orders and notices, and preventing unauthorized out-of-scope work.
  • Support project financial performance through cost awareness, forecast and billing coordination, resource utilization, claims support, and recovery of eligible customer-facing and site-support costs.
  • Own the local escalation pathway: confirm the facts, mobilize the right functions, establish a recovery plan, communicate specific commitments, and verify closure with the customer.
  • Ensure customer communications are timely, professional, fact-based, and action-oriented, with clear ownership and specific commitment dates.
  • Capture customer feedback and lessons learned, champion continuous improvement, and help standardize effective engagement and execution practices across the organization.
  • Partner with sales and service teams to identify follow-on opportunities, including long-term service agreements, upgrades, spare parts, training, digital solutions, and other lifecycle services.
  • Travel to customer, supplier, fabrication, and project sites as required to support critical reviews, testing, issue resolution, and execution milestones.
Who You Are:

You gain insight into customer needs. You identify opportunities that benefit the customer. You build and deliver solutions that meet customer expectations. You establish and maintain effective customer relationships. You understand internal and external stakeholder requirements, expectations, and needs. You balance the interests of multiple stakeholders. You consider cultural and ethical factors in the decision-making process. You act fairly despite conflicting demands of stakeholders. You readily action new challenges, without unnecessary planning. You identify and seize new opportunities. You display a can-do attitude in good and bad times. You step up to handle tough issues.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in customer engagement, project or program execution, account management, engineered solutions, or industrial automation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing meetings, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing escalations, and driving actions through influence without direct authority.
  • Working knowledge of project schedules, risk management, scope and change control, contracts, cost forecasting, billing milestones, quality processes, and site execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, executive presentation, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to travel to customer and project sites as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project-management certification.
  • Experience with Measurement Solutions, analytical systems, flow measurement, engineered packages, lifecycle services, or large capital projects.
  • Experience working across global delivery organizations and coordinating execution between remote project teams and local customers or sites.
  • Commercial acumen, including exposure to change orders, claims, contract interpretation, margin protection, and service growth.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management, project controls, ERP, and reporting or analytics tools.
