Job description

The Sales Engineer is responsible for driving business growth by identifying and developing accounts, concepts, and material handling systems. This position requires close collaboration with the Estimating team to prepare accurate pricing, proposals, and negotiate contracts.


• Identifies current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual customers. Provides product, service, or equipment, technical and engineering information by answering questions and requests.
• Establish new accounts and services accounts by identifying potential customers; planning and organizing sales call schedule.
• Prepares cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents, consulting with engineers, architects, and other professional and technical personnel.
• Gains customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating cost reductions and operations improvements.
• Submits orders by conferring with technical support staff; costing engineering changes.
• Develops customers’ staff by providing technical information and training.
• Prepares sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales information and engineering and application trends.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Contributes to sales engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed, providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations, recommending options and courses of action, and implementing directives.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to customers and prospective customers.

• 10 or more years of experience working within a related role in sales.
• 2 years of experience in an automotive material handling environment.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, structural materials, steel machining/welding practices.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and AutoCAD.
• Works precisely and has a high level of attention to detail.
• Organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in material handling and steel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to self-manage time and time of others.
