What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Engineer, you need a strong combination of technical knowledge in engineering or a related field and proven sales acumen, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce, as well as proficiency in technical presentation tools and product-specific certifications, is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to build client relationships are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills and qualifications enable Sales Engineers to effectively bridge the gap between customer needs and technical solutions, driving both client satisfaction and business growth.

What is a sales engineer?

Sales Engineers are professionals who combine technical knowledge of products or services with strong sales skills to provide solutions to customers. They work closely with both the sales and engineering teams to understand customer needs, demonstrate products, and explain the technical benefits. Sales Engineers often assist with product design and customization, and help customers understand how a product or service can solve their specific problems. Their role typically involves both pre-sales and post-sales support, making them key to building strong customer relationships.

What does a sales engineer do?

As a sales engineer, your responsibilities are to serve as a technical advisor to prospective clients. Your duties may include helping customers decide what to buy for a project, demonstrating the use of products, providing instruction and support, and even performing installations. Companies typically ask sales engineers to sell complex technological or scientific products, which requires extensive knowledge of the parts and functions of each product, as well as related processes. You may also be asked to travel on a regular basis, present information to large crowds, or work irregular hours to meet sales goals and the needs of clients.

How do sales engineers typically collaborate with both technical teams and clients during the sales process?

Sales Engineers act as a vital bridge between technical teams and clients, often working closely with product managers, engineers, and sales representatives. They translate complex technical information into clear, client-friendly solutions and ensure that client requirements are accurately communicated to internal teams. This collaboration involves participating in product demonstrations, technical presentations, and solution design meetings. By fostering effective communication between stakeholders, Sales Engineers help tailor offerings to client needs and drive successful sales outcomes.

Build Long-Term Customer Partnerships with a Global Manufacturing Leader

Are you passionate about building relationships, solving customer challenges, and working with cutting-edge manufacturing technology? We're partnering with an internationally recognized precision machinery manufacturer seeking a Key Account Manager to become a trusted advisor for some of its most important customers.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a relationship-driven professional who enjoys collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and executive leadership while helping customers achieve long-term success. If you thrive in a technical sales environment where customer satisfaction and strategic account growth are equally important, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As the Key Account Manager, you'll serve as the primary point of contact for strategic customers, ensuring they receive exceptional support while identifying opportunities to strengthen long-term partnerships.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customer accounts.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between customers and internal engineering, manufacturing, service, and project teams.

  • Manage customer expectations throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Identify opportunities for additional equipment, aftermarket support, spare parts, and service offerings.

  • Coordinate customer meetings, technical reviews, and business updates.

  • Prepare quotations, proposals, and commercial documentation as needed.

  • Track account activity, sales opportunities, and customer communications within the CRM system.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure customer requirements are understood and executed.

  • Travel to customer facilities as needed to strengthen relationships and support ongoing projects.

  • Resolve customer concerns professionally while maintaining a high level of satisfaction.

What We're Looking For

We're searching for someone who combines strong communication skills with technical curiosity and a genuine passion for customer success.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 3+ years of experience in Key Account Management, Technical Sales, Customer Success, Account Management, or Industrial Sales.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial equipment, automation, machine tools, or capital equipment is highly preferred.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Ability to build credibility with engineers, purchasing teams, plant leadership, and executive decision-makers.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM software.

  • Willingness to travel to customer locations as needed.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

This isn't a high-pressure commission sales role. Instead, you'll focus on building trusted partnerships with established customers while representing a respected global manufacturer known for innovation, precision, and long-term customer relationships.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work alongside highly skilled engineering and manufacturing professionals.

  • Represent industry-leading technology used by major manufacturers around the world.

  • Build meaningful, long-term customer relationships.

  • Influence customer success from project kickoff through ongoing support.

  • Join a financially stable organization with an excellent reputation for quality and innovation.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $90,000–$100,000

  • No bonus structure – competitive guaranteed base compensation.

  • Comprehensive health benefits.

  • Paid vacation and holidays.

  • 401(k) with company contribution.

  • Professional development and training opportunities.

  • Long-term career advancement within a growing global organization.
