What is a sales development representative?

Sales Development Representatives (SDRs) are professionals responsible for identifying and qualifying potential customers for a company’s products or services. They focus on outbound prospecting, engaging with leads through calls, emails, and social media, and setting up meetings or appointments for the sales team. SDRs play a crucial role in building the sales pipeline by generating and nurturing leads before passing them to account executives or senior sales staff. Their efforts help increase the efficiency and productivity of the overall sales process.

What does a sales development representative do?

Sales development representatives seek sales leads through marketing on social media, email, and phone calls. As a sales development representative, you determine if a sales lead has a good chance of purchasing the product or service you are marketing before sending that lead to a sales closer. This process allows salespeople to focus on closing the deal instead of prospecting. You speak with main buyers at companies or with prospective buyers who contact you after seeing your marketing materials, and you discuss their needs to see if your product is a good fit for their overall goals. Many sales development reps have a degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Others enter the role without formal education but with several years of experience in sales or marketing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales development representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Development Representative, you need strong communication, prospecting, and lead qualification skills, typically supported by a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce, email outreach tools, and sales enablement platforms is usually required. Persistence, active listening, and resilience are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are essential for effectively identifying prospects, nurturing leads, and driving revenue growth in a competitive sales environment.

What are some common challenges sales development representatives face when qualifying leads, and how can they overcome them?

Sales Development Representatives (SDRs) often encounter challenges such as reaching decision-makers, handling objections, and distinguishing qualified prospects from uninterested contacts. To overcome these hurdles, successful SDRs use targeted research to personalize outreach, employ effective questioning to identify pain points, and listen actively to address concerns. Regular collaboration with account executives and marketing teams also helps refine lead qualification criteria, ensuring SDRs focus their efforts on the most promising opportunities.

Do sales development representatives make good money?

Sales development representatives (SDRs) typically earn a base salary plus commissions or bonuses based on their performance, with total compensation often ranging from $40,000 to $70,000 annually. Experienced SDRs or those working in high-demand industries can earn higher incomes, especially with strong sales skills and effective use of customer relationship management (CRM) tools.

Job description

Sales Development Representative (SDR)

  • Location: American Fork, Utah
  • Schedule: Full-time, in office, Monday–Friday
  • Compensation: Starting at $40,000 annually plus performance-based commissions
  • Growth Opportunity: Performance-based path to Account Executive, with advancement possible in as little as 2–6 months

About DentalQore

DentalQore is a website design and digital marketing company based in American Fork, Utah. We help dental practices grow by building high-performing websites and SEO strategies that make it easier for patients to find them online.

Our mission is simple: help people grow. That includes the dental practices we serve and the team members who make that growth possible. At DentalQore, we value positivity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We offer a team-oriented environment where motivated people can build their skills, grow their careers, and contribute to meaningful results.

About the Role

DentalQore is looking for a driven and coachable Sales Development Representative to help create new business opportunities through consistent outbound prospecting.

As an SDR, you will be the first point of contact between DentalQore and prospective clients. You will introduce dental practices to our services, qualify potential opportunities, and schedule high-quality appointments for our sales team.

This is an entry point into a long-term sales career, not a dead-end position. You do not need prior sales experience, but you do need to be disciplined, resilient, competitive, and ready to perform in a structured environment with clear expectations.

Top performers can advance into a full-cycle Account Executive role in as little as 2–6 months based on performance, consistency, skill development, and readiness for additional responsibility.

Compensation & Growth Opportunity

This position starts at $40,000 annually plus performance-based commissions.

The SDR role includes structured onboarding, ongoing coaching, and hands-on sales development designed to prepare you for an Account Executive position. Advancement is based on demonstrated performance rather than tenure, giving motivated team members the opportunity to grow quickly.

This role is a strong fit for someone who wants to break into sales, prove themselves in a performance-driven environment, and build toward greater responsibility and earning potential.

What You’ll Do

  • Make outbound calls to dental practices nationwide
  • Introduce DentalQore clearly, professionally, and persuasively
  • Ask effective questions to understand each prospect’s needs and potential fit
  • Qualify prospective clients and identify appropriate next steps
  • Schedule high-quality introductory appointments for the sales team
  • Follow a proven script and structured prospecting process
  • Accurately record call outcomes, prospect information, and notes in the CRM
  • Manage follow-up activities with consistency and attention to detail
  • Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and sales skill development
  • Build the skills and performance habits required to advance into an Account Executive role

Who Thrives in This Role

You will do well here if you are competitive, coachable, consistent, and emotionally resilient. This is a highly structured role involving repetition, clear activity expectations, regular feedback, and a high volume of outbound calls.

We are looking for someone who can maintain a positive and professional approach, even when conversations are challenging or results do not come immediately.

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Comfortable making outbound calls and speaking with new people
  • Motivated by clear goals, performance expectations, and accountability
  • Competitive and energized by measurable results
  • Calm, confident, and professional under pressure
  • Willing to follow a proven script and structured sales process
  • Coachable and able to apply feedback quickly
  • Consistent in their daily effort and follow-through
  • Emotionally resilient and able to move forward after rejection
  • Ambitious about advancing into a closing sales role
  • Committed to operating with integrity and a strong work ethic

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Prior sales, customer service, call center, or phone-based experience is helpful but not required
  • Strong verbal communication skills are required
  • Clear and professional written communication skills
  • Ability to build trust and maintain productive conversations over the phone
  • Willingness to make a high volume of outbound calls
  • Ability to follow a structured process and meet performance expectations
  • Strong organization and attention to detail when documenting activity
  • Motivation to build a long-term sales career and increase your earning potential
  • Full-time, in-office attendance in American Fork, Utah is required
  • Coachability, resilience, consistency, and accountability are essential for this role

We will train the right person and give them a genuine opportunity to build a successful sales career.

Why Join DentalQore?

At DentalQore, you will have the opportunity to begin a meaningful sales career in a company focused on growth for both our clients and our team members.

If you are hungry to learn, willing to be coached, and motivated to prove yourself, this role provides the structure, support, and advancement opportunity to grow from prospecting into a full-cycle sales position.
