Job description

Sales Engineer

Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta

The Company

MSCP provides highly innovative technical and organizational solutions for Heat Management in the Energy sector. Founded in 2011, the company supports clients across Oil & Gas, Mining, Power Generation, Water Treatment, and other industrial markets through engineering, manufacturing, construction, and maintenance services.

The Market

Our clients operate complex industrial facilities where technical performance, reliability, safety, and cost-effective execution are critical. Developing new business requires more than traditional sales—it requires an understanding of industrial processes, technical challenges, and the ability to translate those challenges into practical solutions.

MSCP works with clients to solve complex problems across heat management, electrical heat tracing, insulation, coatings, manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, and related industrial applications.

The Model

MSCP operates using a genuinely systemic organizational model rather than a traditional hierarchical structure. Sales and Business Development are integrated with Engineering, Estimating, Manufacturing, Operations, Procurement, and Project Management.

Our approach is consultative and technically driven. We seek to understand the client's problem first, then bring together the appropriate technical and operational resources to develop the right solution.

Success in this environment requires curiosity, technical aptitude, strong communication skills, and an interest in both engineering and business.

The Position – Sales Engineer

The Sales Engineer is responsible for developing new business opportunities by combining technical knowledge with strong client relationship and commercial skills.

Working closely with MSCP's Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, and Estimating teams, the Sales Engineer will engage with existing and prospective clients to understand technical challenges, identify opportunities, and help develop solutions that align with MSCP's capabilities.

This role is well suited to an engineer, engineering technologist, or individual with a strong hard-science background who is interested in applying their technical knowledge in a client-facing, commercially focused career.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical, engineering, maintenance, reliability, and operational stakeholders within client organizations.

  • Identify new business opportunities through client engagement, industry networking, market research, and technical discussions.

  • Meet with clients to understand operational challenges, project requirements, and technical needs.

  • Translate client requirements into potential technical and commercial solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Estimating, Manufacturing, Operations, and Project Management to develop solutions and proposals.

  • Support technical presentations, proposals, demonstrations, and client meetings.

  • Assist with responding to RFQs, RFPs, and other commercial opportunities.

  • Develop a strong technical understanding of MSCP's products, services, and capabilities.

  • Identify opportunities to introduce additional MSCP capabilities within existing client accounts.

  • Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies, and client needs relevant to MSCP's markets.

  • Maintain opportunity and client information within MSCP's business development systems.

  • Represent MSCP at client meetings, conferences, trade shows, and industry events.

  • Support the development of long-term client relationships rather than transactional sales.

  • Contribute to MSCP's continuous improvement and systemic approach to organizational growth.

QualificationsEducation
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Applied Science, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or another relevant technical or hard-science discipline.

  • Equivalent combinations of technical education and relevant industrial experience may be considered.

Experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience in engineering, technical sales, industrial business development, project execution, manufacturing, or a related technical environment is preferred.

  • Previous sales experience is an asset but is not required for technically strong candidates interested in developing a career in technical sales.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand complex industrial problems.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Commercial curiosity and an interest in understanding how technical solutions create value for clients.

  • Confident communicating with engineers, operations personnel, project teams, and client leadership.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple opportunities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with Procore, or similar business systems is considered an asset.

  • Self-motivated, curious, collaborative, and eager to continuously learn.

What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation based on experience.

  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits after 3 months.

  • RRSP matching program after 6 months.

  • Professional development and career growth opportunities.

  • Exposure to complex industrial projects and innovative technical solutions.

  • The opportunity to work directly with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and senior leadership.

  • A collaborative environment built around continuous improvement and systemic thinking.

  • The opportunity to develop a career at the intersection of technology, engineering, and business.
