Description
The Essentials:
  • Schedule: Minimum 24 hours per month | Monday-Friday
  • Location: Fairlawn, OH
  • Specialties: Health Information Management/Medical Records
What You'll Do:
  • Provides administrative and operational support to the HIM department while gaining practical experience in health information management functions. Under the supervision of HIM leadership, the intern assists with medical record processing, document management, chart maintenance, and customer service while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Prepare, scan, and index to appropriately assign documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Perform quality assurance on scanned documents to ensure image clarity, completeness, and correct patient identification.
  • Assists with purging, retention, and secure storage of medical records in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. Update and maintain the organization's provider database information, including assignment of physician numbers and demographic updates.
What We're Looking For:
  • Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited associate or bachelor's degree program in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, Health Sciences, Public Health, Health Informatics, Business Administration, Medical Office Administration, or another closely related healthcare or business field. Students pursuing a certificate in Medical Coding, Medical Billing or Health Information Technology may also be considered.
  • Experience: Some college healthcare classes preferred; must possess knowledge of office equipment and excellent computer skills; critical thinking skills to process tasks accurately; must be organized and detail oriented; demonstrated problem solving and detailed oriented skills required.
  • Skills: Understanding of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, etc. Attention to detail.
