School Summary
Blue-X Virtual provides turnkey solutions for schools across the country to provide virtual learning options for students in classical, traditional, and alternative formats.
Position Summary
The Learning Mentor will be a collaborative partner with an instructional team servicing students in an online environment. Learning Mentors serve as a parent liaison, communicate with students, helping to ensure the success of each student. Students will work with Learning Mentors to establish and achieve goals, and participate with other students in interactive team-building activities.
Requirements
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Must meet one of the following:
  • At least 60 hours of college: or
  • Documented successful, relevant work experience as a mentor/coach for youth, established by at least three years of employment in a specific field or occupation that required the facilitator to demonstrate knowledge or skill in mentoring/coaching young people; or
  • Significant experience in a volunteer capacity with youth programs to be equivalent to three years of employment demonstrating knowledge or skill in mentoring/coaching young people

Additional, preferred experience to be considered:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience with web-conferencing

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Passion for student success
  • Ability to model virtue and cultivate habits of virtue in students
  • Understanding of virtual education
  • Ability to analyze data and work with students to set and achieve goals
  • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Motivate students in all course study
  • Develop an understanding of each assigned student to assist the instructional team in personalizing instructional activities
  • Maintain student-parent communication via the learning management system and/or email ? Maintain expectations for digital citizenship in the online classroom.
  • Maintain an online environment that is conducive to learning, safe, attractive, and stimulates a spirit of inquiry.
  • Participate in required faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and training workshops.
  • Work closely with Special Education and 504 staff to ensure accommodations are implemented.
  • Actively participate in marketing and student recruiting activities as necessary.
  • If applicable, maintain certification requirements for the state certifying agency(ies), including professional development, license renewal, or other requirements according to each state.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
