Job description

Standard Job Description
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is seeking an experienced Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) System Design (SD) Engineer supporting the F-35 program. You will architect and develop instrumentation systems to be installed on test aircraft. The successful candidate will have significant experience and/or knowledge of aircraft systems, aircraft instrumentation systems, developing and installing systems on aircraft and be able to apply what they learn to future test aircraft development.
Responsible for integrating requirements and programming new instrumentation data acquisition equipment, FTI fiber system, analog and digital signal conditioning hardware during integration and flight test. Works independently or leads a team to execute project, schedule, and technical requirements to meet the goals of the test program. Oversees installation, checkout, and calibration of data systems, to ensure collected data can be properly displayed, processed, and analyzed. Maintains configuration control, and mission capability of the instrumentation system as well as all associated ground support equipment.
Responsible for specification, selection, design, integration, operation and maintenance of airborne data acquisition systems, and their related components. This includes telemetry, flight test specific hardware, or prototypes for flight test evaluation.
Support preflight, post-flight, and control room activities for all scheduled missions.
Interface with test ops, maintenance, and management to ensure all instrumentation requirements are coordinated and accounted for.
Must be able to demonstrate strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, excellent communicative skills, and the ability to work independently or with a team to execute project, schedule, and technical requirements to meet the goals of the test program.
Must be willing to work extended hours, off-shift, and weekends as necessary and support occasional travel as required by the Test Program.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Electronics or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience/combined education
  • At least 8 years of related, professional experience
  • Ability to develop, test, and troubleshoot data acquisition systems and other instrumentation devices is required
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and process specifications
  • Proficient in troubleshooting techniques and tools, including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and other common laboratory equipment

  • Master's degree from an accredited college in Engineering

  • Candidate must work well individually and with team members across multiple organizations
  • Aircraft systems operations experience
  • Previous experience with Curtiss-Wright, Safran, or similar instrumentation hardware and flight test instrumentation operations
  • Background in related specialties: signal conditioning, transducers, data acquisition, video protocols and compression, GPS, IRIG 106, and avionics bus protocols such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429, IEEE 1394, Ethernet, and Fiber Channel

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $104900.00 - $194700.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
