Description

Job Purpose and Summary:
The Safety Officer works in conjunction with the Safety Director to assist in the management of the Safety and Accident Prevention Program. The Safety Officer ensures jobsite safety and adherence to all company, state and federal safety guidelines and policies. The Safety Officer maintains communications with the field employees and any safety inspectors as well as reporting to the Safety Director.
Responsibility:
Ensure Jobsite Safety
  • Visit and inspect all job sites as frequently as possible to help identify safety violations and hazards and train employees on safety methods
  • Document all incidents, corrective actions and preventive measures
  • Conduct Monday morning safety meeting at a designated job site
  • Maintain all air sensors in working order, train employees on proper use
  • Complete Job Hazard Analysis and Site Specific Safety Plan and assist in Pre Task Planning on all new job sites
  • Coordinate and conduct quarterly consultation inspections at various job sites with OSHA, WISHA, DOSH personnel
  • Maintain stock of current PPE (safety vests, hard hats, etc) and distribute when needed
    Ensure Safety Training
  • coordinate and conduct monthly safety meetings per OSHA guidelines
  • Attend monthly Superintendent meetings, quarterly Foreman meetings, biannual Tapani Trucking meetings to discuss relative safety topics
  • Organize and conduct all field compliance training (First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10/30, Forklift Training, Vacuum Testing, Confined Spaces, Fall Protection, Trenching and Excavating, Rigging and Signaling, etc)
  • Organize and conduct New Hire Safety Training/ Onboarding

Ensure Current Safety Practices
  • Attend all OSHA, DOSH, L&I meetings related to all violations and appeals
  • Attend NWUCA meetings and safety summit meetings
  • Monitor and review safety incentive programs; deliver safety incentive rewards to employees
  • Ensure OSHA, WISHA, MSHA, DOT compliance
  • Ensure company Drug Testing Program compliance
  • Assist with utility locates when needed
    Maintain Safety Documentation
  • Maintain database with all weekly job site visits, audits, inspection, jobsite picture
  • Maintain all records of incidents and documentation following an incident
  • Write weekly safety meeting letter and distribute to all applicable personnel
  • Maintain records of all training sessions
  • Maintain and update field safety forms as needed
  • Build a positive attitude and culture surrounding safety within the company
  • Maintain camaraderie between the safety department and all field employees

Job Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Some higher education or vocational training specializing in Risk Management/Construction Safety
  • 6-12 months experience in the industry is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must possess good judgement skills, interpretational skills, supervisory skills, soft skills, communication skills, decision making skills, problem solving skills, and
    planning skills.
  • Understanding of all OSHA, WISHA, DOT safety regulations. Training is attained both on the job and in classroom settings
  • Ability to push, pull, carry, lift 15-30lbs

Working Environment:
  • Extensive travel with a lot of driving.
  • Subsequent overtime including evening meetings and on call status.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending and reaching while on job site visits.
  • Continuous repetitive motions of hands/wrist/feet, listening and talking.
  • Occasional sitting at a desk.
  • Working conditions for this position will be part time in the office and part time out in the field.
  • Hours typically range from 7am to 5pm, with the exception of incident or emergency needs.

  • Pay: $90,000 - $130,000 per year (based on qualifications and experience)
