Equinox Engineering Ltd., a leading EPCM firm headquartered in Calgary, specializes in oil and gas processing, providing comprehensive services in facilities design, implementation, and operational support for natural gas, conventional, and heavy oil projects.  Our clientele includes major oil and gas producers in Canada and globally, and we are actively engaged in diverse sweet gas, sour gas, conventional oil, heavy oil facility, and pipeline projects.
 
Job Overview:
Equinox Engineering is seeking an accomplished Senior Discipline Lead Process Engineer with extensive experience in gas processing to join our team in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  This role is a senior technical position responsible for overseeing the design, execution, and optimization of natural gas processing facilities for customers, including sweet and sour gas treatment, NGL recovery, acid gas injection, sulphur recovery, and turbo-expander applications.  The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to client requests, lead teams of Process Engineers and ensure that projects meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to intermediate and junior process engineers and global workshare resources.
  • Lead the design, review, and execution of gas processing projects across all engineering stages, including Feasibility and Process Studies, Conceptual Design, DBM Development, FEED and Detailed Engineering Design.
  • Develop and validate process simulations and modeling for gas processing facilities.
  • Author, review, and stamp critical design documents, including material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, shutdown keys, control narratives and Process  Engineering reports.
  • Supervise and verify line sizing, PSV sizing, and the preparation of equipment process data sheets.
  • Oversee and participate in P&ID / PHA (HAZOP) reviews and ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on sweet and sour gas processing, NGL recovery, refrigeration systems, sulphur plants, turbo-expanders, and gas sweetening units.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards (API, ASME, ISO).
  • Manage project discipline budgets, schedules, and risk assessments, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
  • Collaborate with PMPE, other technical disciplines, vendors, clients, and stakeholders to progress project deliverables and address complex engineering challenges.
  • Offer technical support during facility commissioning, start-up, and operational troubleshooting and optimization.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Extensive knowledge of sweet and sour gas facility design, field facilities, well sites, gathering systems, compression, and grassroots gas processing plants.
  • Expertise in NGL recovery, acid gas injection, dehydration, refrigeration, sulphur recovery, turbo-expanders, and gas sweetening processes.
  • Strong understanding of process safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance within gas processing.
  • Proficiency with HYSYS and other Process Engineering simulation software, as well as industry engineering codes.
  • Exceptional technical leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and global workshare staff, fostering technical growth and knowledge transfer within the team.

Education and Qualifications: 

Mandatory:
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation with APEGA.
  • Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited Post Secondary institution.
  • A minimum 12 years of industry experience in gas processing.
  • A proven track record of leading Process Engineering teams and executing complex gas processing projects.
Preferred:
  • Experience within an EPCM environment.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation with EGBC.
