Process Safety Engineer - Marshall, MN
 
Job Summary
As the Process Safety Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of leading change. Your role will be to own the implementation of progressive ADM Process Safety program, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and Potentially Dangerous Processes (PDP) systems. This role will be based in the Marshall Corn Plant, with flexibility to engage in PSM process throughout the other Corn Plants in the Business Unit. The position reports directly to the Safety Manager. 
Essential Job Functions
  • Establish a safety culture across the facility based on reviewing and meeting goals, continuous risk reduction and prevention of process safety incidents. 
  • Monitor, evaluate and report PSM performance at the facility and advise management on further improvements, working collaboratively with the Health & Safety Center of Expertise in the North American region to align on PSM Programs and Goals. 
  • Provide Process Safety training to different layers of plant leadership and engineers at the facility. 
  • Conduct and participate in Process Safety Compliance Audits and assessments through plant walk-throughs and colleague interactions.
  • Organize and maintain technical process safety documentation. 
  • Leads and facilitates local Process Safety Risk Assessments, incident investigations and related action plans. Prepare and share Safety Alerts and Best Practices to learn and follow.
  • Perform project design, development and management that are specific to PSM improvements.
  • Review and approve/correct MOC requests, safety devices, etc. related to changes in the plant processes.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of PSM experience, preferably in a chemical manufacturing or agricultural processing facility and strong engineering knowledge. Robust experience in applying the 14 elements of PSM.
  • Strong problem solving, diagnostic and analytical skills, with a results-focused approach. 
  • Strong leadership, change management and project/program management skills. 
  • Excellent communication and people skills. Acts as a reliable proactive communicator.
  • A drive for success, a continuous improvement approach, a consistently positive attitude and outlook 
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to bridge cross-cultural boundaries. 
  • Must be able to accomplish results by working effectively with others and be willing and able to work in plant areas (i.e. walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces) to understand and monitor the process.

    • The scope of the position may have exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
  • Inside areas:
    • Spring / Summer:   Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees
    • Fall / Winter:  Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.
  • Outside areas:
    • Spring / Summer:   Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity.   May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.
    • Fall / Winter:   Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below.   May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.
  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs from waist to shoulder on an occasional basis.
  • No push/pull requirement.
  • Must be able to walk for 1-3 hours.
  • Must be able to sit 5-8 hours.
  • Must be able to squat/kneel on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders on an occasional basis.
