Job description

Summary:

The Health & Safety Specialist supports implementation and execution of safety and health programs within a manufacturing environment. This role assists in identifying workplace hazards, conducting safety inspections, supporting incident investigations, controlling workplace health hazards through exposure monitoring, and promoting safe work practices across production and administrative areas.


The Safety & Health Specialist partners with operations, maintenance, engineering, and EH&S leadership to help reduce workplace risk, strengthen hazard prevention efforts, support industrial hygiene monitoring activities, ergonomic assessments, and health compliance within OSHA and company safety standards across the facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and jobsite audits to identify unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors
  • Assist in implementation and administration of site safety programs in alignment with company standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support industrial hygiene monitoring programs including air sampling, noise monitoring, and evaluation of chemical or physical exposure hazards
  • Conduct exposure monitoring activities such as air sampling, noise dosimetry, and other industrial hygiene sampling under established procedures
  • Assist with the collection, documentation, and maintenance of occupational exposure monitoring data and records
  • Maintain exposure monitoring logs and ensure required documentation is maintained in accordance with OSHA and company requirements
  • Support evaluation of exposure data and assist in identifying potential workplace health risks
  • Assist in conducting ergonomic assessments for production and administrative roles
  • Evaluate workstation layout, manual handling tasks, and repetitive motion exposures and assist in identifying improvement opportunities
  • Support implementation of ergonomic improvements and corrective actions in collaboration with engineering and operations teams
  • Conduct routine health and safety inspections to identify workplace health hazards or unsafe conditions
  • Support OSHA compliance across production and administrative areas
  • Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), task-based risk assessments, and workplace hazard evaluations
  • Identify chemical, mechanical, electrical, ergonomic, and process-related hazards during routine inspections
  • Participate in incident investigations involving injuries, near misses, and property damage
  • Assist with root cause analysis activities and support implementation of corrective actions
  • Track and document completion of corrective and preventive actions
  • Assist with maintaining OSHA recordkeeping documentation (300/300A/301 logs) in coordination with EH&S leadership
  • Support workersโ€™ compensation case documentation and follow-up activities
  • Deliver safety training such as new hire orientation, hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout awareness, and other OSHA-required safety topics
  • Assist with development and delivery of toolbox talks and safety awareness initiatives
  • Promote employee participation in safety improvement initiatives
  • Conduct routine line walks and safety observations to reinforce safe work practices
  • Support contractor safety oversight activities
  • This role supports essential manufacturing and construction operations and may require working extended hours, weekends, or participating in coordination meetings outside standard business hours to support project execution and global collaboration when required
  • Assist with emergency response planning activities and emergency drills
  • Support layered process audits and internal safety compliance reviews
  • Assist with tracking safety KPIs such as incident rates, near-miss reporting, and safety performance metrics
  • Identify safety trends and communicate potential risks to EH&S leadership
  • Support maintenance and documentation within EHS management systems for incident tracking, corrective actions, training records, and compliance reporting
  • Assist with development and revision of safety procedures and safety-related work instructions
  • Support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management system activities as applicable
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
    • Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
    • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent relevant safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment may be considered
  • Professional certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or other safety-related credentials are preferred but not required

Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience supporting safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
  • Experience supporting safety inspections, workplace audits, or incident investigations preferred
  • Exposure to OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices preferred
  • Experience working with EHS management systems or safety documentation tools preferred
  • Exposure to chemical, electrical, mechanical, or automation-related hazards in industrial environments preferred


Skills:

  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and workplace hazard recognition principles
  • Ability to assist with safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident documentation
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate safety documentation

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for a period of up to 12 hours:

  • Safety glasses
  • Steel-toed shoes
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Ear protection
  • Cleanroom suit

Must be able to perform the following activities repeatedly for periods of up to 12 hours:

  • Lift, push, and pull materials or equipment
  • Stoop, twist, and bend
  • Reach overhead
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods
  • Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer systems
Work Environment:
  • Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals.
  • Exposure to chemical vapors, dust, or other controlled substances may occur depending on process assignment.
  • Strict adherence to company safety policies and OSHA Hazard Communication requirements is mandatory.
  • Employees must properly wear and maintain assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times within designated areas.
  • Required PPE may include respirators, chemical-resistant garments, gloves, eye protection, face shields, or other equipment determined by process and risk assessment.
  • Exposure to noise, heat, mechanical equipment, and industrial chemicals may occur depending on system location.
  • Work may occur in mechanical rooms, utility areas, rooftops, or other industrial environments.
  • Role may require support during off-hours, weekends, shutdowns, or emergency situations to support facility operations and production continuity
