Employer & Industry UsageLaw firms, corporations, government agenciesPrivate companies, consulting firms, industrial sectors

Safety Attorneys focus on legal compliance, advising clients on safety laws and representing them in legal matters. Safety Consultants provide practical safety assessments and recommendations to improve workplace safety. Both roles require safety knowledge, but Safety Attorneys emphasize legal expertise, while Safety Consultants focus on safety implementation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Safety Attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Safety Attorney, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, bar admission, and expertise in safety regulations, compliance, and occupational health law. Familiarity with OSHA standards, legal research databases, and case management software is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, negotiation skills, and clear communication help build effective legal arguments and client relationships. These skills are crucial for ensuring clients comply with safety laws, minimizing liability, and successfully navigating complex legal environments.

Is $900 an hour a lot for a lawyer?

For a Safety Attorney, earning $900 an hour is considered very high compared to the average hourly rate for lawyers, which typically ranges from $100 to $400 depending on experience and specialization. Such rates are usually associated with highly experienced attorneys or those working in specialized fields or high-stakes cases.

What is the highest paid attorney job?

The highest paid attorneys are often corporate lawyers, trial lawyers, or patent attorneys, with senior partners in large law firms earning several million dollars annually. Specialized fields such as intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, and securities law tend to offer the highest compensation, especially with extensive experience and successful track records.

Do lawyers make $500,000 a year?

Safety attorneys, like other lawyers, can earn high salaries, but making $500,000 annually is typically reserved for experienced attorneys in specialized fields or those working in large firms or corporate environments. Most lawyers earn less, with median salaries significantly below that figure, especially early in their careers or in public service roles.

How does a Safety Attorney typically collaborate with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders?

Safety Attorneys regularly liaise with regulatory bodies such as OSHA, the EPA, or local safety commissions to ensure their clients or organizations remain compliant with safety laws and regulations. They also work closely with internal teams—including HR, operations, and EHS (Environmental Health & Safety)—to conduct training, draft compliance policies, and investigate incidents. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Safety Attorneys often coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries and help manage internal safety audits. This collaborative approach helps organizations maintain a proactive stance on safety and avoid costly legal issues.

What are Safety Attorneys?

Safety Attorneys are legal professionals who specialize in laws and regulations related to workplace safety, health standards, and compliance. They advise organizations on how to meet safety regulations, represent clients during investigations or litigation, and help develop policies to minimize risk. Their work often involves interpreting complex regulations such as OSHA standards and defending clients in cases involving workplace accidents or violations. Safety Attorneys play a crucial role in protecting both employers and employees by ensuring a safe working environment.

What is the highest paying safety job?

The highest paying safety jobs are often senior roles such as Safety Director or Corporate Safety Manager, which can earn six-figure salaries. These positions typically require extensive experience, certifications like CSP or CIH, and oversight of safety programs across large organizations or industries with high risk, such as oil and gas or manufacturing.

Description
The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, nonprofit organization that serves women, girls, and all immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and other violence. Our whole-person approach to services provides each survivor with free legal support and social services to secure their rights and build stable lives. We translate our client services work into expert training, outreach, and policy advocacy to ensure that systems, laws, and policies protect immigrant survivors from violence and exploitation. Our programs efficiently and effectively leverage donated professional services from a vast network of attorneys, medical professionals, and other experts to serve as many immigrant survivors as possible. By amplifying the experiences of survivors, our mission is to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity.
At Tahirih, a Staff Attorney provides critical legal counsel to our clients, immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence, who seek asylum and related relief before the Department of Homeland Security, federal immigration courts, and appellate courts. Staff Attorneys are well-versed in immigration law, are adept at facilitating trauma-informed interdisciplinary legal representation, and are able to train and mentor pro bono attorneys. A Staff Attorney will work collaboratively on an interdisciplinary client services team to ensure clients' voices and decision-making are centered. A Staff Attorney handles a diverse caseload; maintains quality control of a caseload; ensures grant metrics compliance in their own caseload; maintains relationships with pro bono attorneys assigned to caseload; conducts intake and provides brief advice and counsel; and participates and, as needed, leads legal training, outreach, and education initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Advise, counsel, and represent immigrant survivors of gender-based violence in their legal matters before the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State and Department of Justice (immigration courts and Board of Immigration Appeals).
  • Provide brief advice and counsel and referrals to immigrant survivors of gender-based violence in legal matters related to immigration law, conduct intakes, and maintain a caseload of 60 - 100 cases, approximately 50-60% of which will be co-counseled with pro bono attorneys.
  • Actively participate on an interdisciplinary legal team that centers and empowers Tahirih's clients throughout the course of representation.
  • Collaborate well within a team structure.
  • Communicate effectively within interdisciplinary teams, with clients, with supervisors, and with external partners.
  • Engage in safety planning and other supportive collaborative case work in concert with Social Services team members as part of interdisciplinary, holistic, client-centered, trauma-informed service delivery.
  • Identify and prioritize casework or other legal services that are mandatory grant deliverables for the office or program as a whole.
  • Ensure quality control of the client database and files; maintain accurate data entry; ensure appropriate metrics tracking systems; and follow risk management procedures.
  • Contribute to grant proposals, reports and periodic policy advocacy pieces.
  • Adhere to organizational and local office policies, such as attorney standards of practice, interdisciplinary policies, and ethical standards.
  • Train, mentor, and provide ongoing support the pro bono attorneys.
  • As appropriate, represent Tahirih in coalition efforts, build relationships and collaborate with the immigrant rights community through outreach events and substantive trainings, rooted in Tahirih's interdisciplinary model of representation.
  • Regularly engage in professional development to hone skillset and immigration law substantive knowledge.
  • Contribute to organization-wide meetings, resources and materials.
  • As needed, assist in the recruitment, supervision and support of in-house volunteers and interns;
  • Support office paralegal(s) and other supporting staff members in their administrative duties.
