JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

JOB SUMMARY:
The Public Safety Coordinator is an unarmed non-uniformed position that will assist the Director and Manager of Public Safety with administrative duties. This role will be responsible for public safety initiatives and functions such as security technology to include access control, surveillance and investigations, panic buttons and alarms, visitor management and weapons detection. In addition, this role will be responsible for collaborating with Public Safety leaders across the various shifts to ensure all Public Safety colleagues are being trained in accordance with STHS Public Safety policies and procedures.
The coordinator will also assist management with administrative tasks such as security department statistics, run monthly and quarterly reports of all public safety incidents, maintain the property room, ordering equipment and uniforms and maintaining the appropriate inventory of such items. This role will also assist management with the day-to-day oversight of the parking and transportation contracts, which consist of valet parking and employee shuttle buses at the main campus. This role will also coordinate the delivery of security services for all STHS offsite locations. The coordinator will also be the primary instructor for all de-escalation training courses and conducted energy weapon (taser) training. Will collaborate with external training vendors to ensure all STHS Public Safety colleagues are up to date with firearm certifications and qualifications. Will also be responsible for developing a comprehensive on the job training curriculum that will be approved by the Manager and Director of Public Safety. Will also work with Shift Supervisors and Sr. Public Safety Officers to ensure that all on the job training is consistent across all shifts
This role may also be assigned to assist with Public Safety Supervisory duties as needed. Will also respond to all emergency situations and alerts local authorities when required. Enforces and follows all Security and St. Tammany Health Systems' (STHS) policies and procedures. All duties assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in criminal justice or information technology preferred. Must be able to read, write and follow written or oral instructions. 5+ years of security related experience is required, security technology experience preferred. 2+ years of security-related supervisory experience is preferred. Must not have any felony convictions. Certified Healthcare Security Officer Certification from the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety preferred or must obtain within the first 90 days of employment, Advanced certification within the first year. You must own and maintain ownership of a privately owned cellular phone for emergencies and on-call events.. Must be eligible and willing to work 8-hour shifts, Monday-Friday day and/or night to include weekends as needed for the operation.
IAHSS Basic Certification obtained within 90 days of employment, IAHSS Advanced Certification within first year of employment. Valid and current state issued driver's license. Must maintain and provide proof of automobile insurance (at his/her own expense) in amounts which meet at least the minimum liability coverage limits required by the state of their residence. Must successfully pass a criminal and driving record background checks prior to hiring and annually thereafter; Driving records shall not contain any of the following: a suspended or revoked driver's license, 3 or more moving violations in the past 36 months, 2 or more accidents in the past 36 months, 1 or more instances of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the past 36 months, at fault in a fatal accident within the past 5 years, leaving the scene of an accident within the past 36 months, and/or reckless driving within the past 12 months.
Desired experience in law enforcement, military, corrections or security. Training and experience with conflict resolution and ability to de-escalate hostile situations desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 100 pounds is required.
