Job Summary
Responsible for supervising, overseeing, organizing, and directing the work of Public Safety Staff. In doing so, assigns personnel to posts or patrol, interprets CW policies and procedures, trains, equips and directs security personnel and guides internal and external customer service issues towards positive resolution.

People Management Responsibility

  • Performs people management responsibilities for employees which may include but are not limited to: employee engagement, recruitment, performance management and development

Education:

  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) Required
  • Associate's Degree Preferred or completion of 30 college credits in criminal justice or equivalent field of study Preferred
  • Currently certified or successfully complete departmental training in Defensive and Arrest Tactics (DAAT) or Defensive Tactics for Security (DTS) within 3 months of hire Required
  • Completion of the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Supervisory Certification within 90-days of hire Required

Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
  • License Driver's License - State of Wisconsin required
  • Requires an acceptable driving record, ability to be insured by CHHS carrier.

Experience:

  • 5+ years previous security experience Required
  • with supervisory work experience Preferred
  • Experience as a uniformed security officer in healthcare security, corporate security, law enforcement, and/or military service Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to successfully complete all required introductory and annual competency training processes.
  • Requires the ability to analyze problems and determine appropriate methods and proper sequence of work to ensure security of all staff, patients, and visitors, and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Physical requirements of the job are consistent with the medium physical demand level. Requires combined walking and standing for up to 100% of the work shift, and occasional running for distances of approximately mile, both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to climb several flights of stairs and carry equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, etc.). Must be able capable of lower level work (e.g. kneeling, squatting) for brief periods, and be able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally from floor level. Must be able to assist individuals (e.g. transport a guest in a wheelchair). Must be able to physically restrain patients/disruptive individuals of varying stature. Requires ability to assess safety situations (e.g.. identify smell, color, near and far acuity, temperature, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills necessary in order to effectively supervise assigned personnel and to interact with variety of hospital staff, patients, and visitors under potentially stressful situations.
  • Strong computer skills in order to utilize equipment and systems (PC software applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, CAD, Incident Reporting, etc.) inspect and monitor security of hospital facilities, staff, patients, and visitors, and prepare regular and special reports.
