Director of Safety

Location: Newark, DE (Travel throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey)
Reports To: President
Status: Full-Time | Exempt

Build a Safety Culture That Sets the Standard

At Nickle Electrical Companies, safety isn't a departmentโ€”it's a core value. We're looking for an experienced Director of Safety to lead and continually elevate our company-wide safety program while helping us achieve best-in-class performance across every project.

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for shaping our safety culture, partnering with operational leaders, developing our field teams, and ensuring every employee goes home safely at the end of the day.

If you're a strategic safety leader who enjoys being in the field, coaching leaders, solving problems, and building systems that make a lasting impact, we'd like to meet you.

What You'll Do

As our Director of Safety, you will:

  • Lead and continuously improve Nickle's environmental, health, and safety program.

  • Develop and implement safety strategies, policies, procedures, and initiatives that support a proactive safety culture.

  • Partner with Project Managers, Foremen, and field leadership to integrate safety into every phase of our work.

  • Conduct regular jobsite visits, audits, inspections, and risk assessments throughout the region.

  • Identify hazards, investigate incidents, recommend corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Develop and deliver engaging safety training for employees at all levels.

  • Review and approve project-specific safety plans, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and subcontractor safety documentation.

  • Analyze safety metrics, identify trends, and use data to reduce risk and improve performance.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company standards.

  • Serve as the company's primary representative during OSHA interactions and other regulatory matters.

  • Lead and develop our Safety Specialist through coaching, accountability, and professional development.

  • Chair the company Safety Committee and promote employee engagement through safety initiatives and recognition programs.

  • Build strong relationships with customers, industry partners, and safety organizations while representing Nickle professionally in the community.

What You Bring

We're looking for someone who combines technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Minimum of 8 years of safety management experience.

  • At least 5 years of leadership experience managing a structured safety program.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel daily throughout the Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey region.

  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety requirements.

  • Experience identifying hazards, conducting investigations, and implementing corrective actions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)

  • OSHA 500

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Experience in electrical construction

  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety standards

What Makes You Successful

You'll thrive in this role if you:

  • Lead by example and hold yourself and others accountable.

  • Build trust through strong relationships with field employees and leadership.

  • Are comfortable spending significant time on jobsites rather than behind a desk.

  • Coach rather than simply enforce.

  • Use data to drive decisions and continuous improvement.

  • Communicate effectively with everyone from apprentices to executive leadership.

  • Balance compliance with practical solutions that support operational success.

Why Nickle?
