Posting Details Posting Summary Internal Title Fire Safety (Student Assistant) Department Environmental Health & Safety Position Type STUD - Student Position Basis N/A - Student Position Hours per week Hours Vary - Non-FTE Normal work days Days Vary Normal work hours Varies FLSA Nonexempt Job Details Position Overview: Assists the EHS Division of Fire Safety staff with regulatory compliance and community risk reduction programs. Responsible for regular inspections and maintenance of fire safety equipment, conducts compliance inspections at campus events, and assists with fire safety drills and education events. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Monthly Inspections: Perform thorough checks of fire extinguishers, exit signage, emergency lights, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and fire suppression systems.
  • Utilize Reporting Software: Efficiently use a bar code scanner on a portable palm device to log inspection data.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Operate computer and related equipment to update and manage records and forms.
  • Interpret and Record Data: Apply judgment in interpreting inspection results and accurately recording data.
  • Report Issues: Communicate any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions to supervisory personnel within the Fire Safety Division.
  • Transportation: Operate a University motor vehicle and/or motorized golf cart to travel between multiple campus buildings.
  • Campus Events: Assist fire safety personnel with compliance inspections and report issues/violations. Monitor fire safety systems as assigned.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support campus safety.
