Job description
RWC is seeking a Health & Safety Assistant to support the Health & Safety Advisor in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment across our commercial construction projects throughout the Calgary area.
This junior position provides administrative and field support for the Health & Safety Program through site visits, safety documentation, orientations, inventory management, COR administration, and employee engagement. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in construction safety while working closely with and learning from the Health & Safety Advisor and Health and Safety Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist the Health & Safety Advisor with the implementation and administration of the Company's Health & Safety Program.
Conduct new hire safety orientations for office and field employees as required.
Assist with maintaining health and safety records, forms, training records, and documentation.
Support the Health & Safety Advisor with site inspections by documenting observations, tracking deficiencies, and following up on corrective actions.
Maintain, and update site safety boards and required safety postings.
Assist Foremen and Site Supervisors with project start-up safety documentation and required forms.
Support safety initiatives and maintain a visible safety presence.
Communicate safety information, reminders, and company initiatives to employees and subcontractors.
Attend site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and JOH&S meetings and provide input.
Assist with collecting incident documentation, witness statements, and supporting information following workplace incidents.
Support the administration and maintenance of the Company's COR program, including audit preparation and document organization.
Support company-wide safety training initiatives and employee safety awareness programs.
Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee participation and engagement in safety activities.
Perform other administrative and field support duties as assigned by the Health & Safety Advisor and safety team.
Skills and Qualifications:
A minimum of 1 year of safety-related experience.
Experience in a construction environment is considered an asset.
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
Strong interest in developing a career in occupational health and safety.
Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, and management.
Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Calgary area.
