Saas Operations information

What is SaaS Operations?

SaaS Operations, often called SaaSOps, refers to the management and optimization of software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications within an organization. This role involves overseeing the selection, deployment, security, access, and usage of cloud-based apps to ensure they align with business needs and policies. SaaS Operations professionals help automate workflows, manage user provisioning and deprovisioning, monitor app usage, and ensure compliance and data security. Their work ensures that SaaS tools are reliable, cost-effective, and secure for all users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in SaaS Operations?

To thrive in SaaS Operations, you need a solid understanding of cloud computing, IT infrastructure, and software deployment, typically backed by a degree in computer science or related field. Experience with SaaS management platforms, monitoring tools, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and resolving operational issues. These skills and qualifications ensure reliable SaaS delivery, seamless user experiences, and efficient management of complex software environments.

What are some common challenges faced in SaaS Operations roles, and how can professionals effectively address them?

SaaS Operations professionals often encounter challenges such as managing rapid scaling, ensuring uptime and service reliability, and integrating multiple cloud-based applications. To address these, it’s important to implement strong monitoring tools, automate routine processes where possible, and maintain clear documentation. Collaborating closely with development, support, and security teams also helps quickly resolve issues and improve overall system efficiency, making adaptability and proactive communication essential skills for success in this role.

Job description

Who are we?

Smarsh empowers its customers to manage risk and unleash intelligence in their digital communications. Our growing community of over 6500 organizations in regulated industries counts on Smarsh every day to help them spot compliance, legal or reputational risks in 80+ communication channels before those risks become regulatory fines or headlines.  Relentless innovation has fueled our journey to consistent leadership recognition from analysts like Gartner and Forrester, and our sustained, aggressive growth has landed Smarsh in the annual Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing American companies since 2008.

Summary

The VP, Product Management leads Smarsh's product management organization across multiple lines of business, setting strategic direction and owning end-to-end delivery for the product portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, this leader translates corporate strategy into an executable, multi-year product roadmap; builds and develops a multi-layered team of Product Managers and Product Owners; and drives business outcomes — bookings, revenue, and market position — across the domains they own.

How will you contribute?

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead, define, represent, and communicate product strategy to all stakeholders, including executive leadership and the Board
  • Own the product roadmap and translate corporate strategy into an executable, multi-year plan across all products and product lines
  • Serve as the key evangelist for the product portfolio, participating in press activities, conferences, analyst briefings, and discussions with thought leaders and market analysts

Enterprise Accountability

  • Own product lifecycle management from concept to launch across all products and lines of business
  • Accountable for the operational stability, scalability, and business outcomes of the full product portfolio
  • Own and report on strategic KPIs — pipeline, bookings, revenue, and product health — to the CPO and executive leadership

Program Leadership

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Product Managers, Product Owners, and related personnel across multiple lines of business
  • Own product planning and the assignment of tasks and deliverables across the product organization
  • Assess product development sprints and enhancement opportunities; monitor sprints and evaluate results

Planning & Investment Management

  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and metrics for the product portfolio
  • Analyze proposed product requirements and development programs; prepare return-on-investment analyses; establish time schedules with Engineering and SaaS Operations
  • Define pricing and competitive positioning for each product, using market research, cost data, and volume projections

Cross-Functional Operating Model

  • Lead Product Marketing Managers to assess product mix and marketing strategy; monitor and manage strategic marketing plans for each product or product line
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Sales, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations to deliver quality products and coordinate go-to-market execution
  • Partner with Engineering and SaaS Operations leadership on delivery timelines, capacity, and technical trade-offs

Partner & Vendor Management

  • Own and manage relationships with key external partners — industry analysts, press, and technology partners — relevant to the product portfolio
  • Represent Smarsh in partner, analyst, and customer forums to build market credibility and inform product strategy

Business Impact

  • Accountable for enterprise-wide product strategy outcomes, including bookings, revenue impact, cost optimization, scalability, and innovation across the portfolio
  • Own and report on strategic KPIs to executive leadership and the Board, ensuring transparency and measurable progress
  • Drive innovative ideas, solutions, and products through leadership and decisive action, positioning Smarsh for long-term competitive advantage
What will you bring?

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related technical field
  • 10+ years' experience in a Product Management function or similar role
  • 7+ years in a leadership role, managing a team of Product Managers and/or Product Owners
  • Prior experience delivering features/capabilities (including AI features) for a SaaS product portfolio (>150M in revenue)
  • “General manager mindset” with experience driving business growth in collaboration with other other functions
  • Experience managing the full life cycle of development from conception to launch, and overseeing all key milestones and deliverables of a product's life cycle
  • Strong communication, technical documentation, and analysis skills
  • Experience delivering mid-market or small business software products
  • Strong requirements elicitation and proven writing skills, including the ability to write concisely and clearly for different audiences
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Leadership Competencies

  • Strategic thinking with execution excellence
  • Strong ownership mindset and accountability
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity and drive clarity
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

The above salary range represents Smarsh's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

Any applicable bonus programs will be discussed during the recruiting process.

The salary for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, location, specialty and training. Local cost of living assessments are done for each new hire at the time of offer.
