What is a Rust Crypto developer?

A Rust Crypto developer is a software engineer who specializes in building cryptographic software using the Rust programming language. They focus on developing secure, efficient, and reliable cryptographic libraries, tools, or protocols. Rust's strong memory safety guarantees and performance make it a popular choice for cryptography, and developers working in this field must have a strong understanding of both cryptographic principles and the unique features of Rust. Their work is critical in ensuring data security for a variety of applications, from blockchain to secure communications.

How does a Rust Crypto developer typically collaborate with security and blockchain teams in a project?

As a Rust Crypto developer, you’ll often work closely with both security experts and blockchain engineers to ensure cryptographic protocols are implemented securely and efficiently. Collaboration usually involves regular code reviews, joint threat modeling sessions, and sharing updates on algorithm changes or vulnerabilities. Effective communication is key, as your work directly impacts the safety and reliability of blockchain-based applications. Expect to participate in cross-functional meetings to align on best practices, design decisions, and integration efforts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rust Crypto engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Crypto Engineer, you need strong proficiency in Rust programming, a solid foundation in cryptography concepts, and experience with secure software development. Familiarity with cryptographic libraries (like RustCrypto), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are often valuable. Meticulous attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration skills help ensure robust, secure code and successful teamwork. These skills are critical for developing reliable cryptographic solutions that protect sensitive data and maintain system integrity.

What is the difference between Rust Crypto vs Blockchain Developer?

AspectRust CryptoBlockchain Developer
Required CredentialsProgramming skills in Rust, cryptography knowledgeProgramming skills, blockchain protocols, smart contract experience

Aquent is proud to partner with a pioneering financial institution that stands at the forefront of digital asset innovation. This organization is not just adapting to the future of finance; they are actively building it, integrating cutting-edge blockchain technology to forge secure, reliable, and scalable platforms for digital asset custody and tokenization. Their mission is to deliver robust and innovative solutions that empower clients in the rapidly evolving digital economy, and you will be a crucial part of making that vision a reality.
About the Opportunity
Imagine being at the epicenter of the digital asset revolution, where your expertise directly shapes the foundational infrastructure of next-generation financial services. We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate engineer to play a pivotal role in this transformative journey. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact the security, scalability, and resilience of blockchain operations, working hands-on to integrate and build the core components that underpin digital asset custody and tokenization platforms. Your contributions will be instrumental in translating complex blockchain mechanics into enterprise-grade solutions, driving innovation, and ensuring the integrity of these critical systems.
What You Will Do
As a hands-on contributor, you will operate at the intersection of blockchain protocol mechanics and institutional custody systems. You will collaborate closely with lead engineers and security experts, ensuring all blockchain interactions are secure, reliable, observable, and production-ready. Your work will establish strong foundations for scalable digital asset custody and tokenization platforms, guaranteeing predictable, observable, and resilient integrations.
  • Integrate institutional systems with existing Layer-1 blockchains, evaluating and extending capabilities to meet demanding custody, scalability, and resiliency needs.
  • Develop a deep understanding of chain-level mechanics such as transaction lifecycle, finality, forks, reorgs, and event propagation to ensure reliable integrations under stress and production loads.
  • Design and build core blockchain infrastructure services, including indexers, event processors, block explorers, observability tooling, chain data services, APIs, and interoperability components.
  • Ensure blockchain data pipelines are accurate, performant, and auditable, supporting operational tooling for troubleshooting, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Contribute to wallet architecture and development, focusing on blockchain-facing wallet services, transaction creation, signing workflows, and submission pipelines.
  • Integrate with custody key management systems (MPC, HSMs, signing services), ensuring clean separation of protocol logic, security controls, and business rules.
  • Partner closely with custody and security engineers to validate end-to-end transaction flows and ensure wallet and transaction pipelines behave correctly across normal and edge-case chain conditions.
  • Share responsibility for custody-related blockchain workflows, including on-chain transaction execution, event monitoring, reconciliation, and chain-specific failure handling and recovery patterns.
  • Help define safe patterns for interacting with smart contracts and token standards from custody platforms, ensuring workflows align with custody policies, approvals, and risk controls.
  • Apply modern engineering practices to build reliable, testable, and observable blockchain services, leveraging AI tools to accelerate protocol analysis, code development, testing, documentation, and knowledge sharing while maintaining engineering rigor.

Your Impact and Success in this Role
Your success will be measured by the robustness and predictability of the systems you build. You will know you're making a significant impact when:
  • Blockchain integrations are predictable, observable, and resilient.
  • Wallet and transaction pipelines behave correctly across normal and edge-case chain conditions.
  • Custody systems interact with blockchains safely and consistently.
  • Incidents related to blockchain dependencies are well understood and quickly diagnosed.

Must-Have Qualifications
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience building or integrating blockchain or distributed ledger systems.
  • Strong understanding of Layer-1 blockchain protocols and transaction lifecycles.
  • Experience building backend services, APIs, and infrastructure components.
  • Proficiency in one or more languages such as Go, Java, Rust, Python, or similar.
  • Ability to work effectively across custody, security, and platform teams.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience with blockchain indexers, explorers, or chain analytics systems.
  • Familiarity with wallet architecture and blockchain signing workflows.
  • Exposure to crypto custody platforms or security-sensitive financial systems.
  • Strong debugging instincts in distributed, asynchronous environments.
  • Experience using AI tooling to support complex software development.
