What is a Rust Crypto developer?

A Rust Crypto developer is a software engineer who specializes in building cryptographic software using the Rust programming language. They focus on developing secure, efficient, and reliable cryptographic libraries, tools, or protocols. Rust's strong memory safety guarantees and performance make it a popular choice for cryptography, and developers working in this field must have a strong understanding of both cryptographic principles and the unique features of Rust. Their work is critical in ensuring data security for a variety of applications, from blockchain to secure communications.

How does a Rust Crypto developer typically collaborate with security and blockchain teams in a project?

As a Rust Crypto developer, you’ll often work closely with both security experts and blockchain engineers to ensure cryptographic protocols are implemented securely and efficiently. Collaboration usually involves regular code reviews, joint threat modeling sessions, and sharing updates on algorithm changes or vulnerabilities. Effective communication is key, as your work directly impacts the safety and reliability of blockchain-based applications. Expect to participate in cross-functional meetings to align on best practices, design decisions, and integration efforts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rust Crypto engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Crypto Engineer, you need strong proficiency in Rust programming, a solid foundation in cryptography concepts, and experience with secure software development. Familiarity with cryptographic libraries (like RustCrypto), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are often valuable. Meticulous attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration skills help ensure robust, secure code and successful teamwork. These skills are critical for developing reliable cryptographic solutions that protect sensitive data and maintain system integrity.

What is the difference between Rust Crypto vs Blockchain Developer?

Job description

Location: Southlake, TX Salary: $85.00 USD Hourly - $90.00 USD Hourly Description: Our client is currently seeking a Senior Blockchain Platforms Engineer
Location: Southlake, TX or Austin, TX (On-site 4 days per week)
Job Type: Contract (12 Months) with potential for FTE conversion
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Blockchain Platforms to design, build, and integrate the blockchain infrastructure layer underpinning our digital asset custody and tokenization platforms.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Layer-1 blockchain integration, core infrastructure components, wallet engineering, and custody-related workflows. Working at the intersection of blockchain protocol mechanics and institutional-grade financial systems, you will partner closely with Crypto Custody Lead Engineers and Crypto Security Engineers to ensure all blockchain interactions are secure, reliable, observable, and production-ready.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Blockchain Platforms Engineer, you will focus on four core areas:
1. Layer-1 Blockchain Integration & Platforms
Integrate enterprise systems with existing Layer-1 blockchains (e.g., Ethereum-based or other enterprise-relevant L1s).
Evaluate, build, or extend Layer-1 capabilities to meet enterprise custody, scalability, and resiliency needs.
Manage chain-level mechanics including transaction lifecycles, finality, forks, reorgs, and event propagation.
Ensure blockchain integrations remain highly reliable under stress conditions and production loads.
2. Blockchain Infrastructure Components
Design and build core blockchain infrastructure services, including indexers, event processors, block explorers, observability tooling, chain data services, and APIs.
Develop interoperability and cross-chain integration components.
Ensure blockchain data pipelines are accurate, performant, and auditable.
Support operational tooling required for troubleshooting, monitoring, and incident response.
3. Wallet Architecture & Development
Contribute to blockchain-facing wallet services, transaction creation, signing workflows, and submission pipelines.
Integrate systems with custody key management frameworks, including MPC, HSMs, and signing services.
Ensure wallet implementations cleanly separate protocol logic, security controls, and business rules.
Partner with custody and security teams to validate end-to-end transaction flows.
4. Custody Workflows & Engineering Rigor
Manage on-chain transaction execution, event monitoring, reconciliation, and chain-specific failure/recovery patterns.
Define safe patterns for interacting with smart contracts and token standards from institutional custody platforms.
Leverage GenAI and agentic AI tools to accelerate protocol analysis, code development, testing, and documentation without sacrificing correctness or safety.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Blockchain Domain: Hands-on experience building or integrating blockchain or distributed ledger systems, with a strong understanding of Layer-1 protocols and transaction lifecycles.
Backend Systems: Proven experience building backend services, APIs, and robust infrastructure components.
Programming Languages: Proficiency in one or more languages such as Go, Java, Rust, Python, or similar.
Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively across cross-functional custody, security, and platform teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with blockchain indexers, explorers, or chain analytics systems.
Familiarity with wallet architecture and blockchain signing workflows.
Exposure to crypto custody platforms or security-sensitive financial systems.
Strong debugging instincts in distributed, asynchronous environments.
Experience utilizing AI tooling to support and accelerate complex software development.
