What is the difference between Rust Crypto vs Blockchain Developer?

AspectRust CryptoBlockchain Developer
Required CredentialsProgramming skills in Rust, cryptography knowledgeProgramming skills, blockchain protocols, smart contract experience
Work EnvironmentCrypto projects, security-focused teams, software developmentBlockchain platforms, decentralized applications, fintech companies
Industry UsageCryptography, security, blockchain infrastructureBlockchain platforms, decentralized apps, cryptocurrency projects

Rust Crypto specialists focus on cryptographic security and developing secure software using Rust, often within blockchain or security projects. Blockchain Developers build and maintain blockchain applications, smart contracts, and decentralized systems. While both roles work within the blockchain industry, Rust Crypto emphasizes cryptography and security, whereas Blockchain Developers focus on application development and protocol implementation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rust Crypto Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Crypto Engineer, you need strong proficiency in Rust programming, a solid foundation in cryptography concepts, and experience with secure software development. Familiarity with cryptographic libraries (like RustCrypto), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are often valuable. Meticulous attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration skills help ensure robust, secure code and successful teamwork. These skills are critical for developing reliable cryptographic solutions that protect sensitive data and maintain system integrity.

How does a Rust Crypto developer typically collaborate with security and blockchain teams in a project?

As a Rust Crypto developer, you’ll often work closely with both security experts and blockchain engineers to ensure cryptographic protocols are implemented securely and efficiently. Collaboration usually involves regular code reviews, joint threat modeling sessions, and sharing updates on algorithm changes or vulnerabilities. Effective communication is key, as your work directly impacts the safety and reliability of blockchain-based applications. Expect to participate in cross-functional meetings to align on best practices, design decisions, and integration efforts.

What is a Rust Crypto developer?

A Rust Crypto developer is a software engineer who specializes in building cryptographic software using the Rust programming language. They focus on developing secure, efficient, and reliable cryptographic libraries, tools, or protocols. Rust's strong memory safety guarantees and performance make it a popular choice for cryptography, and developers working in this field must have a strong understanding of both cryptographic principles and the unique features of Rust. Their work is critical in ensuring data security for a variety of applications, from blockchain to secure communications.

Job description

Conduit is an enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure and tooling platform powering the next generation of on-chain applications.
Our platform supports many of the most notable teams in crypto, with use cases spanning payments, tokenization, and beyond. Built for security, customization, and scalability, Conduit delivers production-grade reliability paired with deep blockchain expertise-so teams can stay focused on what matters most: their product.
Backed by a $37M Series A led by Paradigm and Haun Ventures, Conduit is a remote-first company with offices in San Francisco and New York City for those who prefer a hybrid environment. Our team brings experience from companies like Meta, Amazon, Aave, Compound, and Paradigm.
We're building the infrastructure layer that will power on-chain finance for the next decade.
If you want to build something people rely on every day, join us.
About the Role
In this role you'll be working closely with the Head of Product to develop, maintain, and optimize the rollup stack offerings and customizations made possible by our leading Rollup-as-a-Service platform. You'll develop product customizations that create entirely new or more efficient functionality, as well as help us expand our support for emerging L2s. We value people who can quickly obtain a deep technical understanding, are able to quickly create proof-of-concepts to validate entirely new approaches, and enjoy being self-directed and identifying the most important problems to solve.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years developer experience with Golang
  • 2+ years working in the web3 space
    • Ideally developing smart contracts and/or developing node software.
  • 2+ years working in production with infrastructure tools or cloud DevOps experience: GCP, AWS, kubernetes.

It's a bonus if you have:
  • Familiarity with multiple programming languages, including but not limited to Golang, Rust, and Solidity.
  • A strong background in distributed systems, cryptography, and network protocols.
  • Have some experience hacking on the various rollups, understand the underlying components, and have opinions about the various trade-offs of those components and platforms.
  • Have some experience with hacking on EVM node software.

We think you'll find this work really exciting if you:
  • You love to ship code!
  • Not afraid to make decisions and act on them, even when or especially when you face uncertainty.
  • Love rollups and their potential to exponentially scale Ethereum, and are excited about building best-in-class tooling and infrastructure for it and around it.
  • You're excited to architect, build, and deploy the systems, services, and integrations that help our rollups connect with other ecosystem partners.
  • Have experience tinkering with optimistic and ZK rollups and deploying applications to the various chains.
  • Can debug problems across the stack, such as networking issues, performance problems, or memory leaks
  • Own problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done
  • Have contributed to product strategy and product roadmaps.

Our tech stack
Our infrastructure is built on Kubernetes, Postgres, and Cloud Tasks on GCP, and the products on top utilize a mix of React, Javascript/Typescript, Go, Rust, and Postgres. While we value experience with these technologies, we are primarily looking for engineers with strong technical skills and the ability to quickly pick up new tools and frameworks.
