What is a Rust Crypto developer?

A Rust Crypto developer is a software engineer who specializes in building cryptographic software using the Rust programming language. They focus on developing secure, efficient, and reliable cryptographic libraries, tools, or protocols. Rust's strong memory safety guarantees and performance make it a popular choice for cryptography, and developers working in this field must have a strong understanding of both cryptographic principles and the unique features of Rust. Their work is critical in ensuring data security for a variety of applications, from blockchain to secure communications.

How does a Rust Crypto developer typically collaborate with security and blockchain teams in a project?

As a Rust Crypto developer, you’ll often work closely with both security experts and blockchain engineers to ensure cryptographic protocols are implemented securely and efficiently. Collaboration usually involves regular code reviews, joint threat modeling sessions, and sharing updates on algorithm changes or vulnerabilities. Effective communication is key, as your work directly impacts the safety and reliability of blockchain-based applications. Expect to participate in cross-functional meetings to align on best practices, design decisions, and integration efforts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rust Crypto engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Crypto Engineer, you need strong proficiency in Rust programming, a solid foundation in cryptography concepts, and experience with secure software development. Familiarity with cryptographic libraries (like RustCrypto), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are often valuable. Meticulous attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration skills help ensure robust, secure code and successful teamwork. These skills are critical for developing reliable cryptographic solutions that protect sensitive data and maintain system integrity.

About the Company

We are building a unified front-end trading application designed to simplify the fragmented experience retail crypto traders currently face across multiple interfaces, venues, and browser-extension wallets.

Endless bridging, fragmented liquidity, and multiple new venues every year make the experience confusing and potentially dangerous for new users. The goal is to create one venue where users can access the products they want, including perpetuals, cross-chain spot trading, and prediction markets, through one seamless portfolio-margin trading experience.

Crypto users optimize for convenience and reduced fragmentation. One unified trading product for relevant aspects of crypto trading through unified collateral represents a potential $10B+ company with hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

The company has approximately 10 employees, has raised $15M+ in total funding, and has locations in New York City and San Francisco.

What We're Building

The platform uses blockchain infrastructure under the hood. Users will post collateral on our systems, and we will extend USDC collateral on venues of their choice.

Rather than requiring users to move between different venues, the platform will bring those venues to the user. Users will be able to post various forms of collateral and eventually trade across venues without needing to sell down their collateral.

The goal is to become the dominant front end for crypto trading: trade any relevant asset on any relevant venue using one unified balance in one front end, and create the platform that the next 100 million users are sent to by their friends when they enter crypto trading.

Why This Sector

Perpetual swaps are the largest sector by revenue in crypto. Perpetual swaps allow retail traders to speculate on asset prices using linear products and leverage.

Centralized exchange perpetual swaps have grown by double-digit percentages year over year for a decade. Decentralized exchange perpetual swaps are a relatively new sector that has experienced 700%+ growth since 2024.
