How much do runway modeling jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for runway modeling in the United States is $89,784.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $62,000.00 and $111,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Runway Model, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Runway Model, you need strong physical presence, poise, and the ability to follow precise movement instructions, often supported by industry-standard measurements and experience. Familiarity with modeling portfolios, casting call procedures, and sometimes training from modeling schools are typical requirements. Confidence, adaptability, and professionalism are crucial soft skills that help models stand out during high-pressure shows and fittings. These skills and qualities are essential for representing brands effectively, meeting client expectations, and succeeding in the competitive fashion industry.

What is the difference between Runway Modeling vs Fashion Modeling?

Employer & Industry UsageFashion brands, designers, fashion weeksFashion magazines, brands, advertising agencies
Search & Comparison IntentFocus on live runway work and catwalk skillsFocus on print, commercial, and editorial work

Runway Modeling primarily involves walking on the runway during fashion shows, emphasizing walk and presence. Fashion Modeling encompasses a broader range of modeling types, including print, editorial, and commercial work. While both roles require a strong portfolio and certain physical standards, runway modeling is more specialized in live event performance, whereas fashion modeling includes various media formats.

What are some common challenges faced by runway models during fashion shows, and how can they prepare for them?

Runway models often encounter challenges such as quick outfit changes, walking in unfamiliar or high-heeled shoes, and adapting to different runway layouts or show themes. To prepare, models practice walking in various types of footwear, rehearse quick changes with dressers backstage, and study the choreography or pacing expected by the designers. Maintaining composure and flexibility under pressure is key, as shows can be fast-paced and unpredictable. Building strong communication with stylists, designers, and fellow models also helps ensure smooth coordination during the event.

What is runway modeling?

Runway modeling is a type of modeling where models walk on a runway, or catwalk, to showcase clothing and accessories during fashion shows and events. The primary goal is to display designers’ latest collections to buyers, media, and the public. Runway models must have a strong presence, excellent posture, and the ability to convey the designer's vision through their walk and demeanor. Height, body proportions, and confidence are important qualities in this field. Runway modeling often serves as a platform for models to gain exposure and advance their careers in the fashion industry.

Is 30 too old to start modeling?

Runway modeling typically favors younger models, often in their teens or early twenties, but age is not an absolute barrier. Some agencies and clients seek models of various ages, especially for niche markets or mature fashion, and experience, confidence, and unique look can be valuable assets regardless of age.

How can I get into runway modeling?

To become a runway model, individuals typically need to meet specific height and measurement requirements, build a professional portfolio, and gain experience through local fashion shows or agencies. Signing with a reputable modeling agency can provide opportunities and guidance in securing runway work. Developing skills such as walking confidently and maintaining a healthy appearance is also important.

How much is a runway model paid?

Runway models' pay varies widely based on experience, market, and the type of show, but they typically earn between $200 and $1,000 per show. Top models or those working in major fashion weeks can earn significantly more, often supplementing income through agency fees and endorsements.

Job description

Location: This role is based at our College Park, MD office, with the option to work a few days a week remotely.
Travel: Up to 25%, domestic
Job ID:
 1607

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Financial Modeling- FP&A to serve as the cornerstone of IonQ's long-range financial modeling function. This is a high-impact role designed to own, enhance, and administer core financial models - someone who can take complexity, pressure, and uncertainty and redirect it into clear, rigorous financial insight. You will own and centralize IonQ's long-range forecast model, acting as the single source of truth across the organization. You will build and maintain the analytical infrastructure that underpins IonQ's capital strategy, investor communications, and executive decision-making. This role demands extreme precision, independent judgment, and the composure to thrive in a volatile, high-growth environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and maintain IonQ's centralized long-range integrated financial model (3-statement: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow), serving as the single source of truth for all forward-looking financial planning
  • Design and execute rigorous scenario analysis and sensitivity stress-testing frameworks to evaluate the financial impact of key business drivers, market conditions, and strategic decisions
  • Lead capital burn forecasting and runway modeling, providing the CFO and executive team with clear visibility into IonQ's liquidity position under multiple operating scenarios
  • Partner with FP&A, Corporate Development, and Investor Relations teams to ensure model outputs are accurate, auditable, and presentation-ready for board, investor, and lender audiences
  • Build and continuously refine modular model architecture that allows for rapid scenario updates as business conditions evolve
  • Establish and document modeling standards, assumptions libraries, and version control protocols to institutionalize best practices across the finance organization
  • Translate complex model outputs into clear executive narratives and visual materials for senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities embedded in financial data, communicating findings with clarity and urgency to relevant stakeholders
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in IonQ's planning systems and tooling, including potential integration with FP&A platforms such as Pigment, Onestream, or Adaptive

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related analytical field
  • 5-8 years of progressive financial modeling experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in investment banking, private equity, or hedge funds
  • Expert-level command of 3-statement integrated financial modeling, including the mechanical and conceptual relationships between the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
  • Demonstrated mastery of scenario analysis and sensitivity stress-testing, with the ability to model complex interdependencies and non-linear outcomes
  • Deep experience in financial modeling including: fixed asset runoff, stock-based compensation modeling, treasury management, and percentage-of-completion revenue modeling
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; ability to build from scratch, audit, and refactor institutional-grade financial models
  • High degree of intellectual independence - comfortable driving analytical work from ambiguous inputs with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated resilience and composure in fast-moving, high-pressure environments with significant market or operational volatility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a financial modeling analyst or associate at an investment bank, private equity firm, or transaction diligence consulting
  • Exposure to capital markets transactions (follow-on equity, convertible notes, debt financings) and the associated financial modeling and diligence workstreams
  • Familiarity with FP&A platforms such as Pigment, OneStream, or Adaptive Insights
  • Experience supporting investor relations or corporate development functions, including earnings preparation and board-level materials
  • Familiarity with BI and data visualization tools such as Power BI
  • Interest in and aptitude for learning technical subject matter in deep-tech or quantum computing industries
  • CFA charterholder or progress toward the CFA designation

The approximate base salary range for this position is $128,445 - $167,497. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.
