Consumer Events Specialist

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

Put your creative talents to work for saving species and supporting a beloved San Antonio attraction! Our Consumer Events Manager is responsible for creating a layer of entertainment for the zoo, including orchestrating consumer events and collaborating with other departments to developed themed environments and guest touchpoints that elevate the park experience.

As a Consumer Events Specialist, you are responsible for San Antonio Zoo’s coordination and execution of consumer events. You will work closely with vendors and various departments within the zoo to execute such events accordingly.

  • Assist in orchestrating the execution of various events, including those that support general admissions such as Monarch Fest and Jungle Boogie Nights; ticketed special events such as Zoo La-La! Zoo Run.
  • Contribute to weekly staff meetings with representatives from multiple departments to review production timelines for events, delegate responsibilities, and seek collaboration.
  • Collaborate and develop strong working relationships with outside vendors and internal departments to produce show elements as needed.
  • Research networks of vendors for consumer events.
  • Monitor daily setup for consumer events, including signage, activities, entertainment, and other essential event logistics.
  • Ensure each consumer event is set up and running smoothly, solve issues as needed, and break down event elements at event completion.
  • Implement appropriate safety practices for each event.
  • Assist in consumer event planning and task management utilizing Gantt charts and Kanban boards.
  • Contribute to event effectiveness with creative ideas, critical thinking, zoo-wide collaboration, and ensuring excellent guest satisfaction at each event.
  • Generate excitement for events showcasing the organization’s mission and keeping LEAP and sustainability at the forefront.
  • Assist with vendor invoices and contracts for all consumer events.
  • Assist with post-event recaps to include attendance and instrumental information for event efficiency.
  • Work closely with other zoo departments, such as Guest Experience, Animal Care, Revenue, and Education, to produce high-quality events that advance the zoo’s mission.
  • Contribute to the zoo’s marketing by assisting as needed in collecting social media content for consumer events.
  • Adhere to all policies set forth by San Antonio Zoo.
  • Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
  • Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and the animals we protect.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite and ability to learn other software platforms.
  • Professional degree preferred; experience may be substituted.
  • Experience preferred in organizing, planning, and executing events, including; corporate meetings, training, luncheons, weddings, and other special occasions.
  • Ability to deliver a high level of customer service.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment Sex Offender & National Background Check and Drug Screen.
  • Valid Texas state driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • We enjoy year-round operation for all staff. Candidate must be available days, nights, weekends, and occasional after-hour assignments.
