About Aravaipa Running
Aravaipa Running produces trail and ultrarunning events across the Southwest and beyond. We have been building races for over a decade and today operate more than 80 events across seven states. We take event production seriously, and we take the community we serve even more seriously.
About the Role
This is a full-time, in-person position based in Phoenix, AZ. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate prior to start date.
The Social Media Manager owns the day-to-day execution of Aravaipa Running's social media presence. Working directly with the Director of Marketing, this person is responsible for content creation, community engagement, and race day coverage across our Arizona race portfolio. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
Race coverage is a significant part of this job. You will be on-site at 16 events throughout the year, often starting before sunrise. The content you capture and publish in real time is one of the most visible things Aravaipa puts into the world.
What You'll Do
Social Media Management
  • Own day-to-day publishing across Aravaipa Running's core social media accounts
  • Plan and schedule content in alignment with the campaign calendar set by the Director of Marketing
  • Engage with the community by responding to comments, DMs, and tags in a timely and authentic way
  • Monitor incoming messages for customer service needs and route them to the right person
  • Flag partnership, sponsorship, and collaboration inquiries to the Director of Marketing
  • Track performance and bring insights and recommendations to regular check-ins

Content Creation
  • Shoot, edit, and publish short-form video optimized for each platform
  • Capture photography at races and events for use across social, email, and other channels
  • Write copy for posts, captions, and social-first content
  • Maintain a consistent visual and tonal identity across all content

This role attends and produces social content at the following 16 race weekends throughout the year:

Brand and Campaign Alignment
  • Execute content within brand guidelines and campaign frameworks set by the Director of Marketing
  • Participate in regular check-ins to align on priorities, campaigns, and upcoming launches
  • Assist with content planning for major moments including Golden Ticket races, registration opens, and seasonal campaigns

Performance and Learning
  • Share a monthly performance summary covering what worked, what did not, and why
  • Stay current on platform updates, content trends, and emerging formats
  • Bring new ideas and platform insights into regular team check-ins

What We're Looking For
Required
  • 1 to 3 years managing social media accounts for a brand, organization, or public figure, or an equivalent body of demonstrated work
  • Strong short-form video skills including shooting, editing, and publishing for Instagram Reels and TikTok
  • Solid photography skills including comfort shooting outdoors and in low-light conditions
  • Proficiency with video editing tools such as CapCut, Edits, or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Canva or equivalent
  • Clear, confident writing ability for captions and social copy
  • Familiarity with Meta Business Suite and social media scheduling or analytics tools
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
  • Available to work 16 race weekends per year with early morning start times
  • Genuine involvement in the trail running, ultrarunning, or broader endurance sports community
  • Phoenix-based or willing to relocate before start date
  • A portfolio of social media content you have created and published

Preferred
  • Experience coordinating content with freelancers or contractors
  • Familiarity with livestream production or event media coverage
  • Experience working with outdoor, endurance, or lifestyle brands

Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary: $50,000 to $53,000, depending on experience

Schedule and Physical Requirements
This role involves 16 race weekends per year. Race days often begin before sunrise and extend into the evening. On-site coverage requires extended time outdoors in varying weather and terrain. Comfort with early mornings, physical activity, and unpredictable schedules is essential.
