Job description

About this Position:

The objective of the Manager, Ruminant Technical Services is to provide meaningful technical support to grow sales of ruminant nutritional products. This position requires an extremely perceptive person, who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels. As unique situations present themselves, the successful candidate must be sensitive to customer needs, corporate goals, team member goodwill, and the public image.

Primary Responsibilities (The following functions are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned or required.)

  • Technical Service:
    1. Provide support to the Sales Team in their efforts to sell and service ruminant nutritional products to customers.
    2. Provide custom formulation, product development, problem solving, management assistance, research, and total support of ruminant customers.
    3. Maintain a good understanding of production standards.
  • Product Development:
    1. Development of new products for general sales as well as for unique customers
    2. Understanding customers, competition, the marketplace, and the opportunities to develop products that meet customer’s needs, as well as out-perform the competition, and are cost effective.
    3. Responsible for feed budgeting and auditing of feed budgets to ensure proper diet usage and best cost analysis
    4. In-house formulation assistance and nutrition program development for other technical service team members and sales personnel and customers.
  • Product Research:
    1. Develop and manage the ruminant research program in support of product development efforts and customer technical support.
  • Regulatory and Quality Controls:
    1. Provide regulatory and quality control support to the manufacturing operations as it relates to ruminant products and labels.
    2. Work closely with feed mill managers and other team members to solve challenges in production
    3. In the event of a product quality issue, work with feed mill personnel to stop production and resolve the issue before resuming normal production

The Right Candidate:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Animal Science or Nutrition with a focus in ruminant nutrition and management preferred or the equivalent in education and experience combined
  • Previous experience and training in the feed industry preferred.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
