What is Ruff Housing?

Ruff Housing is a company that provides pet care services, primarily for dogs. Their services typically include dog daycare, boarding, grooming, and training. Ruff Housing facilities are designed to give pets a safe, fun, and engaging environment while their owners are away. The staff are trained to monitor play, ensure safety, and provide personalized attention to each pet. Many pet owners choose Ruff Housing for its commitment to animal welfare and quality care.

What are some common challenges faced by employees working at dog daycare facilities like Ruff Housing, and how can they be addressed?

Working at a dog daycare such as Ruff Housing often involves managing multiple dogs with varying temperaments and energy levels, which can present challenges in maintaining a safe and harmonious environment. Employees may encounter situations like dog conflicts or anxious pets, requiring strong observational and problem-solving skills. Effective communication with team members and ongoing training in animal behavior are key to addressing these challenges. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness and adhering to health protocols are essential parts of the daily routine. Developing strong teamwork and staying updated on best practices can help employees thrive in this dynamic and rewarding environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dog daycare attendant?

To thrive as a Dog Daycare Attendant, you need a basic understanding of canine behavior, animal care, and safety procedures, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with kennel management software, pet care scheduling tools, and basic animal first aid is beneficial. Strong communication, patience, and observation skills help you interact positively with both dogs and their owners. These skills ensure the well-being of animals, effective team collaboration, and high-quality service in a fast-paced pet care environment.

📋 Reporting To:
General Manager
💪 What You Should Know:
  • You'll be on your feet most of the shift-standing, walking, climbing stairs, and handling leashed dogs.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs (sometimes it's a crate, sometimes it's a sleepy bulldog).

  • Availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays required (pets don't take days off).

  • Exposure to cleaning supplies, pet hair, and, ahem, "accidents" is part of the gig.

🐕 What You'll Be Doing (Besides Keeping the Shift Running and the Tails Waggin'):
  • Leading the pack during your assigned shifts-coaching, guiding, and setting the tone for pet care excellence.

  • Working alongside Animal Care Attendants to ensure safety, cleanliness, and a whole lot of tail wags.

  • Training new hires on proper pet handling, procedures, and how not to get jumped by five doodles at once.

  • Monitoring pet guests for health, safety, and general cuteness; reporting anything off to the General or Assistant Manager.

  • Serving up food, fresh water, and daily TLC to every furry guest.

  • Overseeing meds and special needs guests (bonus points if you're med-savvy or CPR trained).

  • Bathing and brushing our four-legged VIPs (Very Important Pups).

  • Making sure the place is clean, cozy, and smells less like a wet dog and more like 'spa day at the kennel.
  • Other duties as assigned

🐾 What You Bring to the Table:
  • You're obsessed with animals and it shows. (We see you, covered in pet hair and proud.)

  • 2+ years previous work experience in animal care preferred.

  • Med administration experience? Even better.

  • You lead by example-whether it's scooping, scrubbing, or stepping in when things get off track.

  • Calm under pressure (even when someone mistakes your shoelace for a chew toy).

  • Confident in guiding and supporting teammates to do their best.

  • CPR training is a big plus (but we can help with that too).

  • High school diploma required.
