Serves as a scrub mentor to others performing the scrub role on service cases. Assists RN Service Line Coordinator to standardize instrumentation. Contributes input into the updating of preference cards used within the service line. Assists with the care and monitoring of service equipment and supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.Associate Degree in HealthcareFieldandfive(5) years ofSurgical Technology experience

ORcompletion of a Surgical Technology Programand seven (7) years ofSurgical Technology experience

2. Surgical Technologist certification

3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within30 daysof hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

1. Five(5)years of advanced knowledge in desired specialty.

2. Advanced knowledge of three specialties.

1.Utilizesquality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile or sterile role in the OR.

2.Assiststhe circulating RN in monitoring technique of allpersonsin the OR tomaintaina sterile field.

3. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.

4. Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.

5. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.

6. Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients to includeassistingthe surgical team by holding retractors and position ofoperative limb under direction of surgeon

7. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.

8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.

9. Monitors inventory; orders; andrestockssupplies, instruments, and equipment.

10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines.

11. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.

12. Performs equipmentchecks asassigned.

13. Assists with the proper recording of patient charges.

14. Call with a response time of 30 minutes.

15. Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one, two, & three technologists

16.Participatesin unit-based education activities and mayparticipatein presenting in-services for the staff.

Additional Job Description:

This position will require extensive training at Ruby Memorial in order to prepare to open Fairmont Medical Center Operating Rooms. As new service lines are introduced, returning to Ruby may be required for further training and orientation.
