Lead Mechanical Engineer (PE): Infrastructure Strategy & Longevity

ENGINEERING OBJECTIVE:

At Haynes Mechanical, we view existing buildings as complex, evolving systems rather than static assets. We understand that a "Like-for-Like" replacement may not be the ideal solution. Instead, we seek a Subject Matter Expert to perform deep-dive engineering studies and system designs that prioritize longevity and solve the root cause of mechanical issues. You'd be the lead Mechanical Engineer, mentoring another Mechanical Engineer, signing mechanical designs, and helping guide the direction of our team.

CORE TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Holistic System Analysis: Conduct technical evaluations and in-field verification of existing MEP systems.
  • High-Impact Design: Perform rigorous heating/cooling load calculations to ensure new equipment is right-sized to meet the needs of the building.
  • Functional Mechanical Layouts: Execute full-cycle design for HVAC ductwork and piping, ensuring layouts are optimized for ease of maintenance and long-term serviceability.
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Evaluate current design criteria to provide solutions that improve building performance through operational changes and controls optimization beyond a standard like-for-like approach.
  • Compliance & Integrity: Produce stamped construction documents and technical specifications that meet current codes while exceeding industry standards for durability.

CUSTOMER IMPACT & PROJECT VARIETY:

  • Dynamic Project Portfolio: Lead engineering efforts across a wide spectrum of environments in the commercial retrofit market, with projects ranging from standard office buildings to complex mechanical infrastructure in facilities like hospitals/labs, manufacturing facilities, and data centers.
  • Inter-Disciplinary Coordination: Serve as the technical lead when coordinating with building automation, structural, and electrical teams to ensure a seamless, cohesive final product.
  • Business Development Support: Assist the sales team with customer visits to act as the "voice of engineering", building trust through technical expertise and transparent communication.
  • Innovation: Explore new technologies and stay abreast of current industry and market trends to ensure designs remain relevant for decades, not just years.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience: 10+ years in HVAC design with a focus on mechanical infrastructure and commercial retrofits - OR - 6+ years in HVAC design engineering with your PE license
  • Software: High proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP
  • Code Expertise: Knowledge of building HVAC and energy codes

COMPENSATION:

  • Starting pay $120,000-$150,000 annually

Haynes Mechanical is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic work environment.
