What is an RSM internship?

An RSM internship is a structured work experience program offered by RSM, a global network of independent audit, tax, and consulting firms. Interns gain hands-on experience in fields such as accounting, auditing, consulting, or tax services while working alongside experienced professionals. The internship provides valuable exposure to real-world business challenges, professional networking opportunities, and can often lead to a full-time job offer after graduation. RSM internships are designed to help students develop technical and soft skills while exploring potential career paths in a supportive environment.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during an RSM internship?

During an RSM internship, you'll typically work on a variety of client-facing projects alongside experienced professionals in areas such as audit, tax, or consulting. Interns are often involved in tasks like preparing financial documents, assisting with client meetings, conducting research, and supporting team members with data analysis or administrative duties. The work environment is collaborative, and interns receive guidance from mentors and team leaders, providing valuable exposure to real-world business challenges. This hands-on experience not only develops technical skills but also helps interns build professional relationships and gain insight into potential career paths within the firm.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RSM intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RSM Intern, you generally need a strong academic background in accounting, finance, or a related field, with attention to detail and analytical skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and exposure to accounting or audit software like QuickBooks or CaseWare are typical requirements. Strong communication, teamwork, and a proactive attitude help interns stand out in client-facing and collaborative environments. These skills and qualities are essential for efficiently managing tasks, supporting client projects, and contributing to the firm's success.
