Job description

Retail Pharmacy Technician 2

Inova Compounding Pharmacy is seeking a dedicated Retail Pharmacy Technician 2 to join the team. This role will be full-time Monday – Friday, days/evenings rotating shifts (20-hrs per week). Weekend as needed.

Compounding Pharmacy Technician 2 Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare customized medications by accurately measuring, mixing, and packaging ingredients according to prescription orders and established formulas.
  • Operate and maintain compounding equipment such as ointment mills, capsule machines, and mixers, ensuring proper calibration and cleanliness.
  • Follow strict aseptic techniques and USP 795 and 800 guidelines to maintain safety and compliance in both sterile and non-sterile environments.
  • Maintain inventory of raw materials, ensuring proper storage conditions and timely ordering of supplies.
  • Assists the Pharmacist in reviewing, processing, preparing, filling, labeling and dispensing medications and supplies.
  • Cleans equipment and maintains all required temperature logs according to system policies and procedures.
  • Checks medication and administration supply inventory for out-of-date products, removes products from inventory and works with the appropriate resource to record out-of-date products in the Expiring Medication log book.
  • Performs computer entry of prescription information including, but not limited to, patient/prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation/entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolution.
  • Prepares medications for clients through mixing medications, counting pills, and labeling bottles.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Work schedule: 8-hour shift (days/evenings rotating shift. Weekend as needed).
  • Education: High School or GED.
  • Certification: Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Virginia or a Pharmacy intern license. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience: Two (2) years of Compounding Pharmacy Technician experience.
