Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Regional Logistics Sr. Manager oversees 4-5 Cross Docks and drives operational, financial and loss prevention goals, which are executed by influencing 3rd party logistics providers without direct authority. This is to be accomplished through detailed knowledge of Ross operations and managing the P&L of each Cross Dock that all have unique complexities. This position balances service to Ross customers, while ensuring that budgets are adhered to while also protecting company assets. Combine operations excellence with exceptional interpersonal skills to drive efficiency and foster meaningful partnerships with internal (Ross Supply Chain, Ross Stores Leadership, etc.) and external partners. The role requires exceptional influencing skills to drive change, secure by-in across multiple stakeholder groups and achieve results through effective partnership management. The ideal candidate will be able to foster trust and create collaborative environments that drive mutual success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Driving Operational Performance
• Drive results through providing guidance, tools and information to meet or exceed key operational metrics. (On-Time Deliveries, Unloads, Mis-Directs, etc.)
• Collaborate with logistics provider's leadership to align on prioritization of operational opportunities and steps to achieve them.
• Manage and report on logistics provider projects that may have operational implications. Projects include, but are not limited to, MHE installations, Route Optimization, Floor Layout, Load Balancing and all Peak Planning.
• Collaborate with logistics providers on operational metrics that have a direct impact on hitting their budget, provide guidance on how they're going to solve issues, and hold them accountable to their plan.
• Responsible for managing and facilitating any Transitions, Moves or New Openings of Cross Dock facilities.
• Where necessary with Ross Leased facilities, ensure that issues that need to be addressed are channeled through the right departments and tracked through resolution.
• Manage on-time performance of deliveries, partnering with Zone and District Managers on schedules and peak routes. Adjust delivery times based on store request or delivery concerns.
Managing Financial Objectives
• Responsible for tracking how locations are performing to budget.
• Responsible for possessing a thorough understanding of logistic provider's contract.
• Manage the complexities of Ross's different cost models and, regardless of cost model, determine and report on any deviation to budget if it's due to an operational miss, overspends of line items or volumes.
• Responsible for communicating and elaborating on the financial performance of a logistics provider and detailing steps they are taking to come in line with their budget.
• Ensure the logistics provider is managing all aspects of the P&L statement.
• Collaborate with logistics provider and Transportation leadership on opportunities to reduce costs and maintain service levels.
Influence and Communication
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with 3rd party providers, Cross Dock partners and key vendors to ensure optimal service levels.
• Facilitate clear communication between Ross operations, Cross Dock Partners, Ross Store Leadership to align delivery expectations.
• Drive change through influential leadership and stakeholder management.
• Build consensus across stakeholder groups to improve processes.
• Influence without direct authority to achieve operational goals. Leading through influence rather than authority.
• Conflict-resolution, coaching and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to explain complex operations to a variety of audiences, all at different levels (VPs, Cross Dock Leaders, Cross Dock Associates, etc.).

Supporting Loss Prevention
• Ensure that the logistics provider is compliant with the company's TSR based on the version that aligns with their contract and be aware of any exceptions.
• Ensure that the logistics provider performs regular self-audits.
• Perform audits so that likelihood of passed audits should be high.
• Validate that work orders are in place for any Loss Prevention items that need to be corrected.
• When possible, discuss Loss Prevention Audits with Area Loss Prevention Manager when onsite.
Supporting Positive Associate Relations Programs

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Minimum
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in work experience preferred
• 7-10 years manager level transportation experience to include outbound retail deliveries.
• Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate with all levels and departments both within and outside the company.
• High-Level working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power Point
• Knowledge of current transportation regulations and future regulatory direction
• Skillful negotiator with strong ability to influence
Preferred
• Bachelor or MBA Degree (Transportation, logistics or Business related)
• Experience with direct P&L responsibilities
• 10-15 years prior transportation management experience - outbound retail
• Advanced analytical and reporting skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in an indoor facility. The nature of the job will require time within warehouse operation as well as some time outdoors at our Cross Dock facilities.
Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; most travel is planned, involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
Job frequently requires sitting, handling objects with hands.
Job occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
Travel required up to 75%
Primary work location is home-based, with regular travel required to Cross Dock locations. Must live within the designated region.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
