Job description

*Weekly Incentive and Signing Bonus Offered*

Virginia Family Dentistry is looking for a Full-time (4 or 5 days) or Part-time (1-3 days) Hygienist to join our Staples Mill team!

Typical work hours are 8 am - 5 pm.

We have other Richmond area locations available for Full-time, Part-time and Temporary positions. We are accepting applications from Registered Dental Hygienists (RDH) in the state of Virginia AND recent hygiene school graduates awaiting licensure.

Clinical Requirements for Dental Hygienist (RDH)

  • BLS certified (American Heart Association, Basic Life Support for healthcare providers)
  • High degree of skill with hand instrumentation and ultrasonic inserts
  • Experience in digital radiographs and Dentrix Enterprise electronic patient records preferred
  • Scaling and Root planing
  • Certified to administer nitrous oxide and local anesthesia. If needed, Virginia Family Dentistry will compensate for certification and continued learning

Essential Functions

  • Review daily schedule, prepare operatory, seat patient, review and update medical history
  • Perform oral cancer screening, take x-rays, and administer fluoride treatment
  • Perform prophylaxis, debridement, scaling and root planning, comprehensive periodontal charting to include probing depths, bleeding, suppuration, mobility, furcation grade, and recession, any periodontal therapy and sealants as necessary
  • Educate patient on oral health
  • Communicate the dentist’s treatment plan with patient and front desk
  • Schedule future hygiene appointments with the patient
  • Record all clinical notes and treatment in Dentrix
  • Comply with OSHA, HIPAA, State Board, and sterilization requirements

Physical Demands

Hygienists use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Good eye-hand coordination is required. Repeat the same movements. Bend or twist their body. Stand for long periods of time. Walk for long periods of time. See details of objects that are less than a few feet away. Understand the speech of another person. Speak clearly so listeners can understand. Able to assist in lifting patients into the operatory chair from a wheelchair. The skills used place demand on the whole body, but particularly the back, neck, upper body muscles, arms and hands, and vision.
