Job description

Position Summary

The Housekeeping Director is responsible for the short- and long-term strategic planning and management of the hotel’s housekeeping, laundry, and related rooms operations. This role achieves guest, associate, and corporate satisfaction through consistently high-quality service while meeting or exceeding the department’s financial goals. The Housekeeping Director leads, trains, and mentors a diverse team of associates, maintains a rigorous inspection and quality assurance program, oversees purchasing and vendor relationships, and partners closely with all hotel departments to deliver an outstanding guest experience and maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a representative list of duties and is not exhaustive. Other duties may be assigned.


Department Leadership

  • Direct the short- and long-term planning and daily management of the housekeeping and laundry departments to ensure guest rooms and public areas consistently meet company and brand cleanliness standards.
  • Teach associates the importance of, and how to, warmly greet guests and courteously resolve guest requests.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the department.
  • Work closely with all other hotel departments to ensure a seamless and consistent guest experience.


Operations and Quality Assurance

  • Develop and implement housekeeping procedures that support operational efficiency and exceptional guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure a consistent room, public-area, and facilities inspection program is maintained, personally inspecting a sample of guest rooms daily to verify compliance with company and brand standards.
  • Monitor housekeeping quality scores, guest satisfaction metrics, and online reviews; implement corrective action plans as needed.
  • Ensure VIP rooms, special requests, and priority arrivals — including turndown service and the special needs of VIP guests and foreign dignitaries — are prepared according to established standards.
  • Coordinate room readiness with the Front Desk to maximize room availability and operational efficiency.


Financial and Inventory Management

  • Develop and recommend the department budget, labor cost plans, and financial objectives, and manage housekeeping operations within approved plans.
  • Maintain a solid working knowledge of housekeeping and laundry supplies and pars, and maintain appropriate inventory levels of linens, amenities, cleaning supplies, uniforms, and equipment.
  • Oversee the purchasing of linens and housekeeping supplies, and work closely with vendors to ensure proper pricing, delivery, and equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor supply usage and implement cost-control initiatives while maintaining quality standards.
  • Stay current on the latest housekeeping and laundry technology and evaluate opportunities to improve efficiency.

Safety, Compliance, and Facilities

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, health and safety regulations, and all company policies and procedures.
  • Assure that all safety and security policies and procedures are followed throughout the department.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure associates receive required safety training.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with brand standards and quality assurance requirements.


What You Bring

Required:

  • Four (4) or more years of progressive hotel Rooms Management experience.
  • Service-oriented style with professional presentation skills.
  • High energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leadership, and effective communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service while improving the bottom line.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.

Preferred:

  • Hotel/Hospitality degree.
  • Ability to effectively listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by associates and guests, and to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex information and data from various sources to meet departmental objectives, and willingness to cross-train in other hotel-related areas.
  • Maintains regular attendance and high standards of personal appearance and grooming, and complies with all PAH Management standards, policies, and required meetings and trainings.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • This position is based on property in Fort Wayne, IN.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and move throughout the hotel for extended periods while conducting inspections and supporting operations.
  • Medium work: occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force, and/or frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force, to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move housekeeping supplies, linens, equipment, or other materials.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position while using computers, reviewing reports, preparing schedules, and participating in meetings.
  • Work is performed in both office and hotel environments with regular exposure to cleaning chemicals, laundry equipment, varying temperatures, moderate noise levels, and active guest areas.
