Description
Roofers repair, maintain and construct roofing for residential buildings. This usually requires knowledge of different materials, including slate, concrete and different kinds of tiling. They can choose the right materials for the job and can deliver the job on time. Roofers use equipment and material safely while working at a height. Roofer duties and responsibilities might include:
Job Description
  • Replacing or installing new roofing systems on buildings and customizing materials for individual roofs
  • Ensuring that roofing materials are aligned with edges of roofs
  • Cementing or nailing flashing-strips of metal or shingle over joints to ensure that they are watertight
  • Critically inspecting a room to determine the best repair or replacement procedure for it
  • Inspecting the work area to ensure that all required materials are present
  • Ensuring that materials are properly trimmed to tightly fit along the edges of a roof and altering materials as needed
  • Smoothing and leveling roof surfaces by smoothing out rough spots and preparing a surface for new shingles or waterproofing
  • Ensuring that the job location is neat and safe by cleaning it up once the job is completed.

Requirements
Qualifications and skills:
• High school diploma or GED
• Successful completion of a roofing apprenticeship program
2+ years of experience in roofing, construction, or carpentry
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation Must have required insurance for vehicle required.
• Must own truck or van to carry ladders, tools, and materials.
• Ability to use power tools and equipment
• Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds of materials and tools
• Ability to sit, stand, kneel, climb, lift, and climb stairs and ladders
• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
• Sure, footing and ability to work at multi-story heights
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Knowledge of roofing systems and related local ordinances
• Can work independently and as part of a team environment
• Can communicate well (multiple languages are a plus)
Physical Requirements:
• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
• May require occasional bending, squatting, and reaching.
• Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds.
