Job description

Job Title: Quality EngineerJob Description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting and addressing quality concerns from clients or suppliers. This role involves daily reporting and root cause analysis within client portals. The position requires active involvement in quality control activities to address issues effectively and promptly.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and facilitate Quick Response Quality Control activities to address quality issues promptly.
  • Utilize root cause analysis tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone, Ishikawa, 8D, and A3 to identify systemic issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage internal and external non-conformance by issuing and responding to 8D reports, customer complaints, and internal defect reports.
  • Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for new product launches and changes.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF standards, customer-specific requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Analyze quality data from production and customer feedback to drive product quality and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and implement process improvements.
  • Conduct internal and layered process audits and address non-conformities.
  • Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions and documentation as per customer requirements.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement on the production floor.
  • Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Control Plan development.
  • Provide training and coaching on quality tools, methodologies, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Drive quality initiatives by engaging on the production floor and championing a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in fostering collaboration and driving corrective actions.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline or 5+ years in an automotive quality engineer role.
  • 3+ years of experience in a quality role within a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with quality methodologies.
  • Proficient in root cause analysis tools such as 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone.
  • Working knowledge of IATF standards, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA.
  • Experience with customer-specific quality systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with quality management software is a plus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Preferred experience in Tier 1 auto experience with Honda, Subaru, or Chrysler.
  • Experience in welding environments.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelbyville, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $40.00/hr.
