Job description
JOB SUMMARY
Support Parkinson's program members in reaching fitness goals through delivering safe, effective and motivating fitness programs in a variety of fitness settings including group fitness classes, recreational opportunities and/or personal training. Supportive of the Village's mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Collaborate with the Parkinson's Connection team to support program goals.
- Provide initial orientation for new participants in the program.
- Collect health history forms, release forms, and physician consent forms from members.
- Develop positive rapport with team members to support engagement in fitness programming.
- Lead senior-appropriate fitness classes (floor or chair), adapting as appropriate for varying abilities and mobility levels, always demonstrating proper exercise techniques and monitoring participant safety.
- Responsible for making sure that the exercise area and equipment are safe and clean.
- Fully utilize the Fliip app and other fitness apps to support Parkinson's fitness programming.
- Ensure all participants are properly trained in the use of the facility's exercise equipment
- Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Maintain required fitness certifications.
- Handle stress well and get along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current nationally recognized certification in the specialty fitness discipline.
- Group fitness certification through a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, ACSM) or equivalent preferred.
- Certified Personal Trainer: ACE CPT, NASM CPT, ACSM CPT, or NSCA Certified Personal Trainer or equivalent required.
- Either Rock Steady Boxing or PWR! Moves certification is required upon hire, with the ability to obtain the other certification within 60 days of hire date.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (current) required.
- Current valid driver's license is required with proof of insurance required.
Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):
- Basic level knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Experience:
- 1+ years' experience in Fitness, Therapy or related field required.
- 1+ years' experience in directing exercise programs required
- Experience in directing exercise programs for senior adults is preferred.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- The associate is subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- The associate is exposed to infectious diseases.
- The associate is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
- Required to drive from one location to another if necessary for services provided.
- All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
