The pay range is $95,000.00 - $171,000.00

Strategic Intelligence & Insights is Target's hub for macroeconomic, retail-industry, and competitive intelligence. We deliver forward-looking insights grounded in rigorous analysis and clear storytelling to inform Target's corporate strategy, planning, and portfolio decisions. Our work supports senior executives and the Board, and we partner closely with teams across Strategy, Finance, Insights, and the broader enterprise.

As a Strategic Intelligence Lead, you will own competitive intelligence for a set of core competitors and help leaders anticipate competitor moves and market shifts. You will build repeatable research routines, maintain a robust data toolkit, and translate complex findings into concise, decision-ready narratives. You will develop relationships and partner directly with strategy, insights, finance and functional teams to translate intelligence into recommendations, predictive indicators, and decision support.

What You'll Do:

  • Act as a trusted expert influencing peers, senior leaders and the enterprise strategy
  • Build and maintain a learning plan and recurring routines to deliver proactive competitor insights aligned to Target's strategic priorities.
  • Extract and synthesize competitive signals from financial results, disclosures, investor communications, and investment strategies.
  • Own and evolve a qualitative and quantitative toolkit (datasets, research sources, and analytical frameworks) and translate findings into actionable narratives.
  • Develop forward-looking indicators to continuously monitor competitor dynamics and surface implications, risks, and opportunities.
  • Lead high-visibility projects and manage cross-functional collaboration to deliver executive- and Board-ready outputs.
  • Communicate insights through concise written products and compelling presentations, tailor depth, framing, and recommendations to the audience.
  • Connect intelligence sources across the enterprise to improve visibility, coordination, and knowledge sharing.
  • Coach junior team members, test new technologies and methodologies, and actively contribute to strengthening our intelligence and insights capabilities.

Key Relationships:

  • Reports to the Director of Strategic Intelligence and Consumer Insights; collaborates closely with the Strategic Intelligence & Insights team.
  • Partners with Strategy Development, Strategic Planning, Finance, and Insights functions across the organization.
  • Engages leaders and teams in Merchandising, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Marketing, Digital, Roundel, Loyalty, Stores, Risk, and other functions.

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
  • Graduate degree (MBA, MS, or similar).
  • 5+ years of experience in the investment industry, finance, corporate development, venture capital, private equity, or similar roles.
  • Experience with financial statement analysis, forecasting, financial modeling and retailer KPIs.
  • Experience in, or strong understanding of, retail or CPG and competitive intelligence.
  • Experience using AI-enabled and visualization tools to research, structure, analyze, and communicate insights.
  • Experience analyzing syndicated and panel data from multiple sources.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills grounded in quantitative analysis.
  • Ability to incorporate qualitative insights into holistic narratives.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic projects while managing team, partner, and executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to craft compelling business stories with data.
  • High curiosity and learning agility; comfortable driving results in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid (known internally at Target as "Flex for Your Day") work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Remote work arrangement means the team member worksfull-time from home oran alternatelocation that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at a Target location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role may be performed either remote or onsite at a Target location depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target.
