  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Technology Engineering, Science Education or a closely related field.
  • Valid Delaware educator license and appropriate certification, or eligibility for Delaware licensure and certification.
  • Knowledge of engineering design challenges, prototyping, coding, robotics, fabrication, and other real-world STEM applications.


General Description:  We are seeking an innovative, student-centered high school Robotics & Engineering Teacher to inspire students through hands-on, project-based learning. Courses taught by this teacher will be part of the Manufacturing Engineering Technology Pathway that is part of Career and Technical Education (CTE). The successful candidate will deliver engaging instruction in engineering and robotics while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and career readiness. This position provides opportunities to integrate STEM concepts with real-world applications through laboratory investigations, engineering design challenges, coding, and field experiences. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in Engineering and Robotics.
  • Develop engaging, inquiry-based lessons that encourage scientific exploration and engineering design.
  • Provide instruction in and enforce appropriate safety procedures for robotics, engineering, fabrication, electronics, tools, equipment, and laboratory environments.
  • Teach robotics concepts including programming, automation, & sensors, using age-appropriate robotics platforms.
  • Guide students through the engineering design process, including identifying problems, researching solutions, designing, prototyping, testing, analyzing results, redesigning, and communicating solutions.
  • Integrate technology, data analysis, and computational thinking into daily instruction.
  • Maintain a safe, organized classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
  • Connect classroom learning to engineering, robotics, advanced manufacturing,  and other STEM careers through authentic projects, industry connections, guest speakers, field experiences, and/or work-based learning opportunities, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary STEM initiatives.
  • Sponsor or assist with robotics teams, STEM clubs, science fairs, or other extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school activities.

PATHWAY DESCRIPTION


The Engineering by Design Manufacturing Engineering Technology program of study is a three (3) course Career & Technical Education (CTE) instructional program that engages students in open-ended problem-solving where they learn how to apply skills, knowledge, documentation, and processes with modern, industry-leading technology and software. The program provides students with a wide range of skills and concepts in design, invention, and innovation to meet project goals.
Hands-on activities provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for solving real world problems and prepares students for continued education and careers in manufacturing engineering technology.


COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


FOUNDATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY (ROBOTICS 1)
Foundations of Technology (FOT) prepares students with the ability to innovate, improvise, and invent solutions to engineering problems. Students explore how technological innovations result when ideas, knowledge, and skills are shared within a technological cluster and amongst other fields of study. In this course, students develop foundational skills in engineering design and documentation as a formal process to transform ideas into products or systems.


ADVANCED DESIGN APPLICATIONS (ROBOTICS 2)


Prerequisite: Foundations of Technology (Robotics 1)


Advanced Design Applications (ADA) prepares students with the skills needed to apply advanced applications in design with a focus on systems thinking, the impacts of technological development, and the use of industry-leading technologies in the creation of models, mock-ups, and prototypes to create engineered solutions.


ENGINEERING DESIGN (ROBOTICS 3)


Prerequisite: Foundations of Technology (Robotics 1), and Advanced Design Applications (Robotics 2) Engineering Design (ED) is the capstone course that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to transform concepts into products with fully developed engineering design documentation to meet consumer requirements. Students will practice the engineering design process by creating, synthesizing, iterating, and presenting solutions.


PHYSICAL TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT (ROBOTICS 4)


Prerequisite: Foundations of Technology (Robotics 1), Advanced Design Applications (Robotics 2), and Engineering Design (Robotics 3) This course is designed as a CAPSTONE for the pathway. Students will be working on a competition, either VEX (www.vexrobotics.com), MATE (www.materovcompetition.org) or something suitable that demands a complex set of objectives with a regional and international competition in the spring. During the preparation of the competition, students will collaborate with others to construct a robot or complete research. Students are responsible for documenting research in an engineering notebook that follows the steps of the engineering design process. Students present products through demonstration and an engineering review.
